Wow, I just realized that. I was going to say that another person has a car customized just like Chris. I guess not, You don't find that many people who customize the Benzes like that in the Entertainment Area. I love what I have done to my ML430, but it didn't require as much work as Chris had to put into his. All I have done is added TVs to the headrests, a Tuner, FM modulator to play it through the car speakers, a remote HI-FI VCP, and hookup for any other video output. Since I had the Bose Package with the Bose Sub, changer, and amp, I thought I was perfectly fine with that setup. Chris had to do alot more in the subs/amp/changer area. He has a one-of-a-kind all right!!

Chiragp,

Don't make me jealous Sometimes I wish I had just plunked down the cash and let a shop do it instead of spending hours in the garage, or gotten more consumer level products instead of getting industrial grade stuff (ie no cases on the monitors, which made the custom installation a requirement)...especially now that I'm letting it go. All the multimedia stuff in the world doesn't make of for that 5.0 litre V8 in the 500SEL I bought that's replacing it. But I definitely plan on "multimedia-ing" my 140...is the bose CD changer compatible with Alpine head units? I'm also thinking about LCD monitors in the headrests or dropping down from the rear vanity mirror areas. If you notice, I'm not selling the on board computer with my old car...it's going to be transplanted as I don't want to play tech support for the next owner of the 300E PC's in homes are troublesome enough, let alone in a car! With the PC I have a DVD player and 3000 Mp3's on tap, plus cool winamp visualization plugins that look nice on the LCD screens. I'd love to see some pics of your 430 setup! I plan on taking my car to the park this weekend to take some pics of it, I'll let you guys know.

Well I actually went down and pulled out the cash. We were thinking about the vanity mirror option, or a ceiling mount LCD, but the 2 in the headrest made more sense. No matter how you do it, LCDs are going to ber hard to see unless if you are in front of it, so we decided its best to put them in the hearests. I was going to get pictures of it, but the shop that did was going to take some 'professional" shots for their web page, its been ages, and I still haven't seen them on the web. I think I am just going to start my own page soon.

The Bose CD-changer does work with the Alpine Receiver with an adapter, and vice versa. Next time we do it though, We are going completely with sony.

Sony Cassette ES XR-C900 with built in TV/VCR/CD/MD controls: $300

Sony ES CDX-838 10 disc CD-Changer: $350

2 Clarion 10" TFT Wide Screen Color LCD Monitors w/ built in speakers, headphone jacks, VGA inputs. To be used in conjunction with the SONY Controler box to control the monitors. Basically all the controler box does is control the power, audio input to the reciever. If you want to change what is being displayed, you would be able to so at the screen itself. Therefore, someone could be watching the VCR, while the other plays N64 or Playstation 2. I heard a rumor that Playstation 2 might also play regular DVDs, besides the game based DVDs, that would be sweet.

Sony Tuner Box with a motorola antenna box that allows the car's AM/FM antenna to be used as the antenna for the Tuner.

Since you would have a Sony head unit, you would not need an FM modulator like I did. All you would need is to get the Sony HI-FI VCP. Then you could have a switch box put in at both screens, while doubling the signal, so you basically can chose whatever you want. The headjacks will play even if it is not played through out the car so that the people could listen in the back with headphones while the front listen to the music they want.

I didn't want to loose my Bose receiver because the wiring would have become alot more involved=more $$$. So I stuck with it because it isn't that bad.

Any questions let me know,

Chirag (Charlie) Patel

Hey Charlie,

I tried to email you but it bounced back to me...drop me a line if you can, I see that you changed your profile to say you are in DC now, so maybe we can get together and I can see your setup sometime! I'm still in the planning stages on mine, but I definitely plan to do it. If you'd like, I can take some good shots of your setup, I have a digital camera and I take pics of my cars all the time. Drop me a line and let me know...one thing that I've done that you might be interested in is a book sized PC that has a DVD drive that I also use for Mp3's (over 3000, and the visualization plugins look awesome on the LCD monitors) and GPS navigation. I can give you any info you need on setting one up as well as who to contact to get one. Thanks for the info!
