I'm considering adding one of these to my '87 300E, mainly for "looks", not for increased performance--because I doubt it will be noticeable. And I certainly don't won't to make performance worse.
Per various ads the REMUS is supposed to decrease backflow. Won't this affect off-the line torque by actually decreasing it? Second, how easy is it to install one of these? I've read in various catalogues that they just "bolt" on to the rear resonator. But looking underneath my 300, I seriously doubt it. It looks like the stock rear muffler/exhaust is welded onto the stock rear resonator. That means some cutting and fitting will be involved. Another way of getting around this may be just to replace the rear resonator with a new one (factory or OEM) and fit the new exhaust to the rear resonator. Apparently, from looking underneath my 300, the rear resonator actually bolts onto the catalytic convertor assembly. Your comments would be appreciated. ------------------ '87 300E '88 560 SEL '98 SL 500 |

As I've said before, I've seen a Remus installed on a 300E. On that particular install the tips from the Remus stuck out pretty far. It was far enough that if you were walking close behind the car you could easily bump your shins on them. Don't know how much of a headache they are to install but be prepared for it being more than a quick "weekend" job. Were it my car, I'd probably not do the Remus. If you want more power why not keep the rest of the exhaust system stock and look into a cat-bypass pipe.
Just an idea...Lee |

Hi Lee,
I need some exhaust work done and want to take this opportunity to upgrade the system (not with the Remus, though - doesn't sound worth it for an aluminized muffler that sticks out too far...). What sort of power increase might one see with a cat-bypass on a 300E? Would it hurt low-end torque? If this is a good idea (why would you suggest it if it wasn't, I suppose...), should the precats be removed, too? Thanks for the tips, Nick |

I have a 1993 300E with the Remus exhaust and am quite pleased with it. I wanted a more robust sound and this does the job although I would say any performance changes were minimal at best.
Installation was fairly easy - I cut the orignal exhaust using a sawzall with total time to complete the installation at about 2 hours. Just make sure you get two new rubber gromets for the rear hanger of the muffler. The Remus is heavy and will put extra stress on these. I also took the car in to a muffler shop and had them weld the joint for a better seal, cost all of 5 dollars and took 5 minutes. Remus does suggest you may have to cut your rear bumper slightly but I didn't have to do this. My exhaust tips are not any further back than stock and you will not hit them when walking behind the car. Regards. |

If you have any pictures of how this exhaust looks on your 300 (from the side and rear), please feel free to e-mail them to me at beemaze@yahoo.com

I have a 1992 MBZ 300E and was interested in the Remus rear muffler also. If you could send me rear and side view pictures of your vehicle, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

For those of us curious as to how the REMUS exhaust looks on the 124 body:
http://www.dhc.net/~pmhack/mercedes/300CE902.HTM No, it doesn't stick out past the rear bumper, but I believe the bottom of the muffler looks like it below the rear bumper. ------------------ '87 300E '88 560 SEL '98 SL 500 |
