Anyway, I run a very old V1 myself, and it's saved me more than a few times. I did get clocked at 72 in a 55 once in VA, but I had the V1 tucked in the glovebox; I know, stupid. I think VA will fine you if they find a detector; not sure if they confiscate it. Never had to deal with it. In some older tests, the V1 emitted so little RF that the detector detector had to be within 10 feet of the V1 in order to find it. I do know that VA will cite you for a misdemeanor if you're going over 80 mph or 20 mph or more over the limit. I forget which. I do know that it can mean jail time...yes, prison That's probably why you see a lot of people on I-95 clustered in 79 mph packs through the 65 mph zones... The only time I've seen the V1 laser thingy go off is pulling up to a convenience store where the cash register is near the parking area (laser scanners?) and when following a GMC Trailblazer SUV. Come to think of it, also when my voltage regulator went bad and the V1 was getting around 11 volts and facing into the sun.

I love my Valentine One! I purchased mine brand new about 3 months ago. This is by far the best radar detector I have ever owned! I can locate a cop from a mile or two away and the signal direction arrows are a great feature. The case may be old fashoned but I guess they feel, "Why replace something that works". The best part is that the hardware and firmware can be updated, this means no outdated technology! Well, For now at least. The only thing I hate is every automatic door I pass by sets it off. Thats My Opinion, Adam

Adam,
To reduce falsing from door openers, set it to the "Advanced Logic" mode. I had to do this on mine. There is an even more advanced setting that eliminates single-blip X-band (maybe K-band too?) signals but it's not documented in the manual, and I can't find the section on the website that had instructions on how to do this. I need to call them up and ask. |

Hi gsxr,
Yeah , I always set my V1 for Advanced Logic Mode and I still get a lot of false alarms around shopping centers and gas stations. Let me know if you find anything on the X band removal. None of the cops around here use X band anymore. Thanks! Adam |
