newbie with a question
Hello all,
First I would like to introduce myself to the list. My name is Kyle Brewington and I reside in Murfreesboro,TN. I have been an avid car junkie for more years than I care to remember. I have been into Corvettes and hot rods for along time and have a fond curiousity about MB and have been researching them for awhile before "jumping in". I located a 91' 350 SDL locally here and as most of you know they are "notorious" for the 3.5L diesel "going south" and this one is no exception.-Bent rods. After seeing what it cost to rebuild one- In my book ( make that pocketbook) it it totally cost prohibitive, more to rebuild motor than what the car is worth. So what I need to know are there any alternatives to engine replacement-earlier 3.0L diesel, MB V-8 gas motor, or maybe (please don't throw rocks) a small block Chevy motor/trans conversion. Thanks in advance Kyle Brewington my stable: 1995 LT1 Corvette 1934' Ford 3-window coupe(hot rod) 1997 Chev 3500 Duelly crewcab (wifes ride) possibly 1991 MB 350 SDL Last edited by Kyle; 01-15-2005 at 12:07 PM. Post this over in the diesel forum. But here are a few options, find a used 3.5, or a used 3.0. Going to the 3L 603 should be a very simple swap. Unless the car is very nice swapping in a MB gas V8 is a lot of work. They changed a lot of things going from gas to diesel. However I think at least a warmed up 350 or 454 would be real cool in a W126. Maybe shoot for the 500hp mark?
