Has anyone ever noticed that thir seems to be more performance parts for BMW than Mercedes and they seem to be cheaper to boot. When I drive araound I see more Mercedes than BMW (about 6 or 7 to 1). So if there are more Mercedes out there than BMW why are there more performance products for BMW???

It also seems so hard to find anything for Mercedes (performance wise)

Thank You for any comments.

BMW has always had a racing heritage as opposed to the class and status of Mercedes Benz. BMW produces racing motorcycles, etc. MBZ produces powerful, luxurious passenger cars (for the most part). Bimmers on the whole are smaller than MBZ'S. My 325 is a great little car, but it ain't no Benz.

The demographic of BMW owners tends to modify their cars more than the MB set. They also seem to go for the more performance "image" that BMW pedals. As such, most of the people who would tweak on a benz end up in BMW's to begin with. With that interest there has sprung up a large aftermarket. There are enough top notch BMW tuners that there is some level of competition among them. For most people who would modify a benz price is not as much of an issue. If it is, they tend to go to BMW where they can get it for less. (though the longterm performance, durability, and resale are open to discussion)

Just my opinion...Lee

While we are on this subject, has anyone one heard of a Dungen M5. Saw it on Rt 1 today going back to S.F. from Santa Cruz. Not much of a car to look at, except the badge that says Dungen. I have never heard of it before(that really means nothing). The guy driving it wasn't smoking anybody, just blew by me at 60 mph. I was in a rental going 55.
