I can't find any pictures of a AMG HAMMER. I do see some fixed up 300E's that are claimed to be the real deal, but I doubt it. So does anyone have any good pictures ?

I have a customer who has a real one, but I've never taken any pics of it. His is the real deal. He also has a 600SL, an older countach, and an 87 Testarossa-that we service.

His Hammer is that weird orangish/red color, and has the chrome AMG wheels, the moled in rear "duck tail" body work, etc. The original engine is no longer in the car though. He had overheated it (big time) a few years ago and pretty much ruined it!
He had "his mechanic-at the time"put a used 500sl engine &trans in it. I know the car used to have the cool AMG DOHC engine in it, because I serviced the car for the dealer that sold it to him. After he bought the car, he had his own "mechanic" working on all of his stuff. After years of his high priced toys being, "butchered", he finally started bringing them to us. Unfortuneatly, it was too late to save the hammer engine. The 'ol car still looks cool, but has had a hard life.

Let me know where I can send pictures. I have a 1984 AMG Hammer in an SEC body. It is black. I also have pictures of the same car in white and pictures from the AMG brochure on the Hammer package. It is an unbelievable car!! 375 horsepower in a lightened Mercedes two door coupe! INCREDIBLE!! I have had the car to about 150 mph and still had lots of engine left. It is truly a wolf in sheeps clothing.

Herr,

What you need to do is transfer your pictures from your computer to a "Web Server" somewhere. Where is somewhere? Anywhere you want, you just to need to signup at a free site like www.homestead.com and then you can open your own site.

Once you have that step, you can add a new page and upload your pictures to the page. Their are tutorials to take you through every step of the way. It takes about an hour or so to do the whole thing for a beginner, but once its done you can start experimenting.

If you have no time for all this, and truly want someone to "Host" your pictures, you can send some to me and I will do it for you, just click on the "Mail" icon on the bottom of this thread footer.

That story about the Hammer brought tears to my eyes. Such a beautiful machine, should not be treated as such.

Thank you for your concern,
but not to worry. The automobile is in good hands. The event occurred on Highway 318 in Nevada and not another soul in sight. I have also raced Porsches in track and solo events for many years. No need to cry.
Besides, the auto was built for flexing it's muscles. A four cam engine REALLY starts developing torque higher in it's rpm range....and just driving it to church on Sundays would be an insult to such a fine example of engineering genius! It needed to clear out some carbon build-up!
I've also had a Vector W8 over 200 mph (somewhere over, it's hard to watch the gauges at that speed!). The Vector is a fine car, but it feels as though your teeth a being rattled out of your skull...or maybe it's the white knuckle, clenching of the teeth that makes them feel that way.
The Hammer is an incredible machine made for kick in the pants horsepower- all this and the luxury of a Benz! Who could ask for anything more!

AMG Hammer pics

OK, I just spent some time posting AMG Hammer pics to my web-site. There are pics of my Hammer coupe, AMG's show car built for Hans Werner Aufrecht- president and owner of AMG and a few pages from the AMG brochure advertising the Hammer! The page is located at:

Please let me know what you think.
Thank you and good day!

Herr,

I wasn't crying about you bringing the Hammer up to 150 MPH, I was crying about that person who overheated their motor big time, and the mechanic who screwed everything up.
Hey I totally agree with you wanting to Stretch your Hammers legs. Nice Car.

Thank you Captain!
Took several photos today and if I find some time in the near future will update the page.
It is a shame about the overheat! I do have to wonder if the mechanic had plans for the engine before classifying it as a total loss though.

Im the owner of the red Hammer. After I won the ebay auction for the car. A guy from Seattle WA contacted me with a 6.0 Hammer engine and transmission. Low and behold the previous owners name was written on all the parts meaning it was from the same car. Later verified. It just needed head gaskets and a real light mill.A fat wad later and has been rebuilt better then it was when new, for more reasons then five. Its ready to go back in the car at my shop on LI in NY. stevepitbull@yahoo.com

Congratulations on sticking with the project and restoring one of these rare cars. You've inspired me to start a Hammer registry.

Assorted Hammer photos are on my website here:

http://www.w124performance.com/images/cars/shopping/AMG_Hammer/

A couple of these were for sale recently, I believe they're still available because nobody was willing to pay what the seller wanted for them.

Fiberglass

Did they use fiberglass to build the trunk lid? Are they actually a wider car than the normal 124's or is just the wheel track wider? I recently saw a what I thought was a 124 but the rear fenders and trunk lid were duck tailed. Jim
