Kevin,
Thanks for the vote on the E420 I love it too. I am very interested in the 16x7.5 wheels and would love to find a set of used AMGs. I am still interested to find out if the Spotrline kit is applicable to a 1994 E420. Do you know?

Thanks,
Brad

Brad-
All the part #'s are different between the E320 and E420. There is no "SportLine suspension" for the E420. I can't tell just from the part #'s whether the Sportline E320 suspension is an improvement over the stock E420.

At this point it looks like the Sportline package only works on the Inline-6.

Since it has been several months since I performed my measurements on the Sportline Package, I re-measured the height this weekend on the assumption that the parts may have settled into place a bit. My original measurements were:
Before Sportline: Rear - 8", Front - 7.5"
After Sportline: Rear - 7.75" Front - 7.25"

After several months of not so conservative driving the suspension has settled to a rear height of 7 1/2" and a front height of 7", measurements taken at the same places as noted in the Sportline article under the "Featured Cars" page. Since I am not even a 1/16th" down on the tire tread, it looks like the amount of lowering provided by the Sportline package is about 1/2". The visual effect is such that the MB owners who have asked me about the wonderful shine on my car (Thanks, LEE!) seem to think there is something different about the car, but they can't figure out that it has been lowered. This site needs a smilie button for "smug satisfaction".

Tommy,

A belated Thank You for your excellent comments back in January. I lost track of this topic and have been otherwise occupied (it is ski season, after all!) With regard to putting on wheels that widen the stance of the car, wouldn't this pitch a lot of road crap onto the fenders or do you think the tires would still sit inside of the fenders?

Thanks again!

BTW, with regard to Barrier Porsche, I went there once about 4 months ago to order some replacement hoses for the water lines of my 928. They said they'd call me the following monday. When they didn't, I called and they said they had no record of my order. Sigh.

I am a new MB owner having traded a BMW for a 1995 E320. I am interested in this Sportline suspension kit and some new wheels and tires. I've been looking at 17" wheels but now wonder if I can run them with the suspension mods. What do you think?

I also am from the Pacific NW and am looking for a good dealer for service. Did I hear Phil Smart?

What will be the price to install the kit? Round numbers is OK.

Marc

The labor for installing all the parts (springs, sway bars and bushings, thinner spring pads parts and labor, sub-frame bushings, and control arm bushings) was $740 - it was over a days work for the tech. When you look at the pictures on the "Featured Cars" section and see the entire front suspension dismantled, the exhaust system removed, and the rear subframe disconected, then the price may seem pretty reasonable - it did to me! In terms of fun per mile, it is a steal at the price. Unfortunately, the suspension seems to have an effect on tire and brake pad life. Or maybe it's caused by the fact that I occasionally (very often?) drive deeper into a corner before braking, and start accelerating out of the corner a LOT earlier? Nah, must be the suspension!

Can someone post the length of the rear SportLine springs?

I'm wondering if they are shorter or longer than the 500E springs.

Thanks,
:-) neil
