Well I went to the shop and they are moving to tampa.
I did however find out that the car was a 1986 original AMG Hammer. With a 6 liter V8. I was told that the car was running in the low 5's for 0-60 (in hot Florida). The car has a pritty wierd histoy. Did you go to the 86 Chicago auto show, well that car was in the show. It was made for the head of AMG at the time (I can't remember his name). The car was bought for 35K in 1996. Which I think is priyy cheap for such a car. What a ride!!! |

Yeah, sure matches the M.O. for a Hammer (early W124, narrow body, early Monoblock wheels, early AMG body kit; I don't think Hammers came with the smoke taillights though. Pretty cool...too bad about the air dam damage.
6.0 Litre huh? I know Hammers were modified 5.6 liter M117 (?) motors with 4-valve AMG-designed heads...I was not aware that the displacement had been upped though. Jay, on the outside 500Es had flared fenders front and rear, an extended rear bumper apron, and widened lower body panels to match. Front air dam was different too, with fog lights down low and driving lights replacing the W124 fogs. That car must haul...maybe was even made for the Big Man at AMG, Hans Werner Aufrecht?? I'd LOVE to take that car for a spin...if it's loaded options-wise, it may have originally retailed for around $160k US ------------------ Best regards, Michael '92 500E '88 300TE |

I remember having one of the first AMG trunk "wings" installed in Northern California at a shop called, Bruce Canepa Motorsports. Anyone recognize that name? They're located in Santa Cruz, CA and used to be the premier AMG reseller in No. Cal. Bruce was also a race car driver and pioneer in the aerodynamic body kits for big rigs. He's now a nationally recognized "tuner" of SUVs. Anyways, while at his shop to drop off my car, I noticed them working on a 500E "Hammer Killer" (that's what I was told). Don't know what the performance details were, but at the time they were doing body work on it. They had purchased an additional set of 500E front quarter panels, cut out the arches, and were modifying the rear quarters to accept these (wider) front arches. Never got to see the final masterpiece, but I bet it looked BAAAAAD-AAAASSS!!!
Ahhhh, how I long for those early AMG Hammer days . . . Sorry there's nothing of value in my post, but hopefully some interesting reading. Have a great 3-day weekend all! Brian |
