Performance Parts for 190E 2.6 16V Evo.

I am contemplating the purchase of a 1986 190E, but there are a few things I am really unsure of.

Here is the Ad, if you could please read through it and tell me what you think of the car, and what it is going to potientially cost to fix all the little things that need fixing.

Thanks.

That looks like Thumper's car from 190Rev. That car's not my cup of tea, but it should be pretty sound overall. I can't say how much the repairs would run.

As to the exhaust, check underneath after the cat. If you only find 1 muffler, your cheapest route would be to go to a muffler shop and have them install a center AND a rear muffler (I'm assuming you think the car's too loud.)

Be forewarned that the 16v has a pretty high maintenance price, and it isn't a low-end torque machine.

Who is Thumper? I've never heard of him.

The car has one pipe out of the muffler, the system is most definetly not stock. He said that the windows and door locks on the drivers side dont work. What kind of money are we talking for these repairs? What about a new engine fan and rear bushing?

Do you know of a company that makes an aftermarket exhaust for the 190 16V? As I really dont want to go stock.

Remus makes one. Maybe even Supersprint for the 16V. But they are expensive. Also, try ANSA. Alot of people do custom exhaust systems....saves alot more money.

ya...that is thumper's car. i heard the odometer doesnt work either. and im assumng the mileage is in the 100s so i would find out if the timing chain, tensioner and rails have been changed. that alone in itself is a pretty expensive job. i really love my 16v...it is a bit underpowered...but a few friends and i are working on a few modifications to solve that. if you want another place for performance parts... try this place...but just to let you know...the parts arent cheap. http://www.flyingtiger.ca/welcome.html

as far as exhaust...i have a Remus on my 16v...not too loud but it has a nice deep sound.

Nothing is more expensive than a cheap Mercedes. Pay a bit more for a car with less issues might be cheaper in the long run.

Depending on your income and level of automotive experience, a Benz is a great car, but might not be the car for you. They are well engineered, for the most part, but they have a good share of issues depending on the model and the mileage.

16V's have isssues with chain tensioners, suspension pieces, AC, engine electronics and electrical parts in general.

Do a search on this board and you will find some reoccurring issues. You will proabably want to find a car that is well maintained with records.

That is an awfully high price for a 16v with all of those problems and big paint spots missing. that front grille is way too flashy and the car pulls to the right after accelerating??? and the odometer is broken HAHAHA are you seriously still considering that car??? i have an 86 16v that i might consider selling if the price is right. ALL ELECTRONICS WORK, nothing is pushed through the dash the odometer works (167,000 miles) a lot but, the engine starts and runs perfectly and reliably.. it has a rare automatic transmission which you can still downshift and shift up on like tiptronic. i have custom exhaust with catalatic converter removed (have Catalatic converter to swap when smog is needed), eibach springs, 17" rims wrapped in brand new Goodyear eagle F1's. cd player custom smoked out taillights european headlights with 6,700K Xenon lights. send me an e-mail if anyone is interested. i will take pics tomorrow and will be availible if wanted

The odometer may or may not be broken, if it is...then forget it. But at this point I am unsure. The bushing isnt a difficult repair, and the rest of the stuff is easy. But nonetheless, you have a good point.

No way in hell am I going to drive an Auto....

yea it sucks that it's an auto but i'm sure someone would love it in an area with a lot of traffic or someone who is sick of manuals. good luck with that piece if you buy it.

if you check out the classifieds section on 190revolution.net...there is someone selling a 16v with 28k miles...its a bit expensive. a friend of mine is selling his 16v here in norcal. its a black 16v with Evo II kit and BBS RC 18in wheels...it has less than 60k and wants $12k for it. if you are interested, leave your email address and i'll send it to him.
