Scott

Please explain the nature of the tranny upgrade. I thought they only installed 1st gear start-adapted valve bodies in these things? And why do you feel the need to increase your transmission's torque handling capacity, if that is indeed what you're after? And what about the oil cooler-what are the claimed gains in terms of both oil temp. decrease and coolant temp decrease, if applicable?

Just curious, as are others I'm sure. Thanks, and keep those mods coming!

RENNtech

The RENNtech transmission update is a prerequisite upgrade, prior to the 6 liter conversion (1.5 to 2 years from now).

I will obtain white-sheet specs from RENNtech and post them, ASAP.

rear subframe modification

Please issue a "search" command for the string "subframe" in the HotRods forum; Mr. Nielsen was kind enough to elaborate - as well as share his own expertise (he made his own).

Kind regards / Ciao!

Any newbies?

Wanted to bring this thread back to the top-a think there are a few newer 500E fanatics out there, so register here! I've got the beginnings of a registry going, primarily so when track events come up the membership can be properly warned!

BTW, anybody know who bought the purple one that was on eBay? I bet that car looks great!

Michael,
I recently picked up a Brilliant Silver '94 E500. Black interior, MB 6-disc CD, built-in MB phone (although I won't be activating it), stock wheels in chrome (to be replaced in the future) and otherwise stock.

Thanks.

Italianbenz,

Here's the link: http://www.zing.com/members/rainmaker500

The Euro-spec E500/500Es come with an oil cooler. North American spec vehicles don't. RENNTech's oil cooler is apparently the OEM oil cooler, it just comes with the complete plumbing. I guess you can order this from your dealer.

Regards

Welcome Glen & Rainmaker!

Also, Rainmaker- can you provide any additional specs on the oil cooler? If it's not insanely expensive OE, that's my next upgrade!

Haven't received them yet so I really don't have any specs to give. Run.exe has them installed, i believe, and another member as well.

On of the dealers here quoted me $350 and change...no more than $400, and that's with airfreight from Europe to Asia.

The part no. of the oil cooler radiator is, i believe, 119-180-06-11. I guess you could get the part numbers of the brackets and hoses from there.

You could also try the Parts Shop on this site ( http://www.peachparts.com/parts_lobby.htm )

Hope that helps...

Ricky

AMG E60

I've been in an e-mail chat with a fellow who owns a 1994 AMG E60. Does anyone have some info on this Europe-only variant?

Michael, I would be happy to host a photo gallery for all the 500E/E500 owners who've answered your post. Let me know your thoughts.

Dean,

Sounds like a Plan. I'll drop you an email offline soon so we can discuss further.

Thanks for the offer

Add me to the list

Hi Michael,

I bought my 1992 500E back in November 2000. It had 47,979 miles on the clock; today, almost 50K.

Pearl gray/black
Alpine 7263 CD player with 100 watt amp
M-B phone
Built-in K40 radar detector
17 x 8.5-in AMG 5-spoke 170 wheels
245/45-17 Bridgestone Pole Position S-03 tires (just installed over the weekend)

I've only driven the car a total of 20 miles since installing the new tires (and below 60 mph), but initial impressions are:

Slightly higher turning effort
No reduction in ride quality/harshness
No increase in road noise

I'll have to wait to go out on the road without my wife riding shotgun to test the limits of adhesion.
