HEY MICHAEL...

When you started this thread I recall something about you drafting up an E500/500E owners list, including the modifications for each car.

Sure was a great idea. What's up with that?

Michael, where is "there".

Can we see it?

I remember a response summary of numbers by color, but I don't remember what part of the country everyone was home to each.

Thanks

Dwight

Cool DONE THAT

Thanx for the reply,
I purhased my 1992 500E about a year and a half ago from a Porshe collector in N.J. after searching for 500E ayear before that. He had been meticulous about the maintanence of the car. So needless to say it is in awesome condition. The exterior is IMPERIAL GREY PEARL and the interior is black leather. Currently, it has a set of SLK 16x8 wheels w/ Michilin Pilots all around. 58K miles on clock. I put a Lorinser rear wing on the back. My car is purely for enjoyment and I dont drive it much except to DESTRESS. I am currently doing alot of research on MODS I am about to do . 19 in STAGGERED two peice wheels, tires, H&R springs, MONOCHROMATIC PAINT, interior REDO, BREMBOS, FORMULA ONE STEERING WHEEL/ CONTROLS, Stainless steel exhaust. I want to completely detail the under carriage of the car also. EMAIL drmspce@aol.com

Help! E500 scratched by low trees during transport - Repaint??

I couldn't wait for my 1994 E500 to be delivered from Houston, two weeks ago. The car transport driver called for directions to my house. When he showed up I was amazed to see a full size tractor trailer transport, with my car on top of the cab - up front, way up high!

My fears were real. Low hanging tree limbs scratched my E500, beginning at the front of the hood, back to the windshield, the full length of the roof (multiple scratches) and one bad scratch the length of my trunk. My detailer said he could only buff out the hood, but the roof and trunk scratches were too deep. While not gouges, they had scratched through the charcoal (Pearl Black?) paint. Yes, the transport company is going to pay for the repairs, and are waiting for my 2 estimates.

Question - Can a repaint of the roof and trunk match the rest of the car and be unnoticeable? The first estimate I have is approximately $1,500, and they plan to "feather" the trunk paint over the fenders to "blend". Except for the scratches, the charcoal grey paint and finish of the car is like new. But I guess even a perfectly maintained car will fade a bit over 7 years. I hate to have any "patchwork" of repairs.

Does anybody have any suggestions about how to get the best results? Do I live with the small scratches for a couple of years?(No way!).

I gotta say, all the E500 / 500E enthusiasm of the members are well founded. What a GREAT car! Only I wish it was still in the perfect condition as before the driver mistakenly drove along tree lined roads to my house. Too bad the Driver didn't ask me to meet him in a parking lot somewhere near the beltway. The carriers owner says deliveries to residential areas is against policy. I feel bad for the driver, since the owner is planning to "dock" him.

I'm in Potomac, Maryland, just outside DC / Va. Does anybody have any body shop recomendations for the area?. Thanks for any ideas!

Sorry to hear about this sad event, hate to see an injured
E500.

I think probably the safest bet would be to ask each of the paint shops your considering to show you a few examples of their work. You'll know immediately if they are qualified to provide you with the results you want. Look for runs, orange peel, color match, and sand paper marks. These are all signs of a poor paint job.

Good luck.

Lightbulb E500 SCRATCHES

Sorry to hear about the damage to your car. In the Rockville MD. area there is only one shop to take your car to in my opinion. MASTER CRAFTERS located near west horners off Gude Drive. See Kenny the owner he is simply THE BEST. If you want to see an example of his work, I would be glad to show you my car. Email drmspce@aol.com

The quality of the paint match is dictated by the skill of the painter. You should be fine (sorry to hear of your bad luck )

Enjoy the car, and welcome!

Purchased about two months ago, new member to the list just this morning 7/26. Got an obvious grey market 92 500E, upgraded to E500 looks, even to the point of being rebadged E500 on the deck lid. pearl black/black. 48K miles. Still trying to figure out it's history. It's got Brabus labels and pieces all over it. Brabus monoblock wheels, 18X9.5, Dunlop sport 8000s, 245X40 on the front, 285X35 on the back. Brabus exaust system. Bought it from a guy that got deported before he was able to take delivery. Tough break for him, fortunate for me. Flew to NYC to pick it up on a Saturday night, made it back to Denver in time for a Monday morning meeting.

the mother of all 500Es, forza ed eleganza and color scheming

“Honor thy father and thy mother”

At the behest of the greater authority quoted above, I politely ask for admittance to the fortunate group of 500E/ E500 owners. Although my car is an AMG Hammer wagon, not a 500, it has been said that the Hammer was the father of the W124 500E (a more sexist view might say the Hammer Wagon was the mother of the 500E, but that would leave the Hammer CE’s role difficult to define)

My car is black on black, 68k miles and I have a long road ahead to bring her back to her original glory. I detailed some of the restoration issues in a recent post.

On another note, I have seen a lot of discussion regarding the available color combinations of 500E’s. A few months back, on eBay, I purchased a beautiful 500E brochure in Italian (as well as an undated AMG line brochure showing among other cars the 500E 6.0). The brochure, “Forza ed Eleganza, La Mercedes-Benz 500E” has a detailed color chart for Exterior and Interior. Listed below are the available colors, with attempted translation or description of the color.

Exterior
(all the colors have lower panels in a contrasting shade)
Argento brillante- brilliant silver
Blu perla- blue pearl- looks like a silvery ice blue
Madreperla- looks like a not so brilliant silver, gray lower panels
Grigio fumo- smoke silver
Impala- rental car tan - dark champagne almost a canyon brown
Bornite- medium gray
Verde cristallo- a very light silvery green
Berillio- Dean’s green is the closest description I can think of
Malachite- a darker green, not quite emerald
Rosso granato- grab the Dalmatian red
Rosso brillante- a Bordeaux red
Grigio antracite- anthracite (my fluent Italian at work here)
Blu nautico- nautical blue
Nero blue- looks like black, midnight blue?

Interior
Here’s where it gets interesting. As with many cars where we take leather for granted, in Italy there are five options each in Pelle (leather) or Tessuto (fabric). Some of the photos indicate that the fabric option (plaid) was only for the center cushions while the side bolsters had solid colored leather. Better grip for your culo en la curva mi amore.

The colors are:
Nero- black
Blu- blue
Brasile- brown
Beige
Grigio- gray

After reading many of the posts in this thread last night, I visited AutoTrader.com (once bitten twice shy) to look at some 500Es. Among the 22 ads I found the following private ad-

-1993 MERCEDES BENZ 500E, white w/grey int, only factory one in this combination know to exist, second owner, garage kept, dealer serviced only, all records, immac, 98k low mi, $32,500 obo,-

The ad was preceded by a dealer ad for a 1993 500E 84k, White/ gray leather $31,900 and followed by anther dealer ad White/ Gray 68k miles.

So much for color clarity.

There is a black 94 ?500E Brabus 6.0 liter conversion with 33,000 miles at $41,000, looks mighty tempting:

-This car is a 6.0L(408 bhp) Brabus. Not only it's Porsche built supercar, it's improved by the world's best Mercedes tuner. Brabus parts are: suspension (springs, shocks, sway bars, front strut brace), brakes (front - alcon 4 piston floating calipers and slotted discs, rear - 2 piston calipers), 18" 3 piece wheels with 225 front/255 rear Dunlop SP9000, 2.58 rear diff ratio, oil cooler, traction control defeat and 1st gear start, Brabus sport steering wheel and hand made wooden shift knob. Brabus mods are worth $50K. Car is in top shape inside and outside. Lightning fast - 0-60time is 4.6 sec. Serious buyers only, please.-

Would anyone “not serious” consider buying that car?

And now a photo that I look at now and again for inspiration-

Thanks for a great forum,
Dave

Dave- by virtue of it being an AMG V8 in a W124, I'd say "welcome to the club!"

That picture of the 3.6L wide-body AMG wagon was my inspiration to do the AMG C36 engine & tranny into my 1988 W124 wagon, along with front SportLine suspension, 500E rear suspension, and Brabus front & rear spoilers, plus exhaust. What's even better is the 3.07 limited-slip diff.

I had thought about a 500E engine & tranny, but too much sheet-metal modifications. Next time, perhaps a 500E with a wagon grafted/welded to the back!
