All you guys who don't get snow are pretty lucky..
I'm sick and tired of cleaning my car everytime I go out.
All the salt(or whatever they spray on the roads) isn't doing my car any good. I'm considering buying a winter car.

Chuck

Favorites? Hmmm....

1956 or '57 300SL gullwing, alloy body, strawberry red paint
(THE rarest of the breed. only 29 alloy body coupes were built and only 13 of all gullwings had the strawberry paint.)
1962 300SL roadster, also w/ strawberry paint
(last model year and therefore with all mechanical upgrades)
1991 Evol II (need I say more?)
1971(?) C-111 Mk2
1993 500E (last year out of 2 that they were assembled by Porsche)
2000 CL55 F1

For the past week the Benz has sat covered up, while the Blazer has been doing all the dirty work in the snow. Yup its slippen slidding time up here in N.Y I love th Blazer's 4By4 in these conditions.

By how much faster where the earlier models than the latter models. Also how can a 500E go faster than 160 if its "tached out " at that speed. A E55 would look terrific with flared fenders. I think MBZ should bring that back becasue it looks so intimidating and good.

The '92 cars were faster, as I understand it, simply because they had more aggressive fuel & ignition mapping. However, the '92s also had a "closed deck" design, and are therefore compatable with being bored out. Hence the dramatically higher price in having a '93-'94 punched out by the RennTech or Brabus folks; they need to do up a '92 block. Per MBZ specs, the '92 had either 7 or 11 extra ponies vs. the '93-'94. I don't think you could ever feel the extra power, and I've driven 4 non-'92s that felt strong.

Capt. Alex - a 500E at redline is going 165 MPH. I know of no 500Es with a speed limiter, so I'm fairly sure any 500E should be able to bury its 160 MPH speedo. Further, according to MBZ, if a 500E had proper gearing, it'd go 175 MPH drag-limited. Plenty quick.

And I couldn't agree more on the E55 flared fender thing...it's perhaps the aspect I most like about my car (next to that motor!)

I second you on the favorite being the 6.9, what a wonderful technological masterpiece of the day. So I guess my list would run as follows:

1. 450SEL 6.9
2. 600SWB (W100 chassis)
3. 300SEL 6.3
4. 300d "Adenauer"
5. 600SEL 12 cylinder (W140 chassis)

As you can see, I like the "bigguns"!

I'm suprised that no one mentioned the 126 body 560SEC. I was considering buying one of those prior to acquiring the 500E.

My reality favorites:
1991 560SEC
230-280SL pagodas
500E

My fantasy favorites:
300 gullwing
Ferrari Dino
