Cool M62 ready to be mounted

The new toy arrived this afternoon! I stopped by the Mercedes dealer today and checked out the intake and exhaust manifolds for the M62 and they're not bad for the $250 /pair... ouch...

VW makes a boot that is close, but still a 1/4" off. It's hard to find a 4 1/4" 90 degree elbow... Will keep looking.

More pics as the world turns...

Cool Kompressor Update

In case anyone is still following this; I've picked up the intake and exhast manifolds from Mercedes. (Probably should have spent that $225 elsewhere)

I also found an intake online, it will be here in the next week. I'm planning on sending it out to be welded up for a new EFI system and better air/fuel flow...

I've heard somethings about using a 300e cylinder head to lessen the compression and improve the air/fuel flow. Um can we say more boost, less detonation?!?!

If anyone has any contacts in the forced injection world, please hook me up.
(I'm in hillbilly hell out here)

You need to hang around the 190revolution.net forum we have lots of answers to your questions about turbocharging and supercharging that has been done. read before you post. you may get sarcastic answers if you ask a question that has been answered many times.

I did see some threads about turbo's but it looks like nothing materialized.

Have you seen anyone with one built and dyno'd?

Still searching... and reading...

A guy in Chicago has Donnie's old 400+HP turbo 16V, and a kid in Michigan just built a nice 16V turbo with close to that much power. Also, my 16V turbo project is getting close to complete: HERE

Did you miss this THREAD ??

Have fun!

M62 install

Hi, how is your project going? I also have a M62 eaton in the car except it is still in the box. I was wondering how it is solved with the electronic clutch, did you remove it (the electronic system) or can you use it upon demand, and if you don't use it what device is used to let the air come in another way than via the compressor. I would install it on a M104 (300-24V) and place it where the airco is, the airco is busted anyway and they told me it would cost over 2500 u$ to fix it, so I prefer some more horses instead.
Also at the same time I will install a LPG (I) (liquid petroleum gas injection) I talked to the guy and he can you up to 320 HP for this engine. Fuel is getting mighty expensive here and LPG is almost 3 times cheaper. To give you an idea a full fuel tank is on average 94 euro wich is 114 u$d. So I hope my project will work, because I do not know a lot about all this matter.

Greetings to all

Is that typical of the cars?

I posted a help me add cause I'm looking at a 190E 2.6 to purchase and was very concerned about the slow acceleration (and it's running rough aside from that).

Are the cars slugs off the line in general, even while running properly?

Sorry to ask such assenine questions, but my daily driver is a BMW R1100RT (it's a motorcycle for non-bikers), so I'm not exactly used to taking off slow

Steve

Oh yeah.

Reason for the above is that I would be very interested in building a turbo setup. I'd probably choose to custom fab most of the components and use drab stuff like a Volvo intercooler and an old T4 (mainly because I have them), but that's dependent on the pricing of some of these other options.

There are a couple of things you needto realize about older MBs.

First of all, the automatics don't actually start in first gear, they start in second.

Secondly, MB's were never drag racing champs. Acceleration runs were until recently not of much interest to the European market. It's almost purely an American obsession. As a result, MBs were geared (pardon the pun) towards highway driving/commuting.

yep

I'm semi aware of this (check my other vehicles), just nosing a curiosity from the new guy.

I have no intention of drag racing the car, I'm prone to appreciate handling much more than straight line acceleration, though I do enjoy that as well IMHO, turbocharging is more useful for autocross styled performance than it is drag racing (and yes you can manage this in an automatic, just pull it down a couple gears).

Maybe soon 88'190E 2.6, which will inherit an extra Garret T4 and Volvo Intercooler (cause I've got them already) and hope to heck I can learn MB systems since I'm used to BMW (and yes, sorry guys, I still want another one)

Um.. er, I mean Florida...

I may use the R16 hookup with the dial pot with the M62 as a timing retard

I'm still having off the line and cold start issues. It starts really rough and has almost no power under 2k RPM with the AC on. On a cold morning with the AC off it "jumps" off the line and really get's going, but when it's hot with the AC on, I can put my foot to the floor off the line, count to three and still be under 10 MPH until it slowly climbs up to 2k+ RPM, it takes off.

I have a sneaking suspicion that I'll be converting to a 5 spd sometime soon. If for nothing more than "fun" factor.
I'm in JAX, FL, with a C36-powered W124 wagon.

Let's meet up.
