Hi
Just bought Euro lenses for 1994/95 E class (excl 500). I did not know that the US assembly is sealed however. In fact, in the US, MB only sells the entirely headlamp assembly (all news to me...).
Anyhow, the basic assembly appears to be the same as the Euro version, only that the plastic frame of the lens seems to have been glued to the unit body.
Has anyone taken this apart before? Anyone know how to? Thought I would ask before making my own discoveries.
As always, thanks in advance
Farrukh

Got the lens in, wait for it, Eygpt!
Went on a family visit to Cairo and got them from a dealer there. Cost is around $50 each.

Farrukh:
I don't know about the 94/95 models, but the Euro lights on my 87 have a lens assembly that is held on by 2 clips at the top. The clips are grey plastic and about 2 inches wide, and are located on top of the light assembly immediately behind the lens. The clip looks like \\__|_|_|___//. The "\\______//" looking part surrounds the "|_|_|" looking part, and the center of it lifts over the |_|_| with a thin screw driver to release the top of the lens. If you have US style headlights, they may be different, as the US headlights were separate from the rest of the lens assembly in 1987. Also, the 94/95 lenses may be different. Good Luck!

I do not know anything about US headlights, but the European headlights consist (since the early 70's) out of several parts of which the lense is an item as well.
The lenses on the euro lights can be changed when the glass is broken or bad (by roaduse). Like JCH already tried to point out (nice work by the way) is that the lenses are glued to a plastic framework which is fixed by the clamps shown (above). The clamps are not only on the top, but on both sides and the bottom of the light unit as well. To exchange these lenses you need to take out the light unit (to prevent you from braking any of the clamps at the bottom side). Between the lens-frame and headlight unit is a rubber sealing.
The euro lenses on head light units for the W124 are all fastened like that, no exceptions left (85-95).

Farrukh, if you've got an unit which have the lenses glued to the unit, you have something after market and not OEM MB.

greetingz,

greetingz,
They are OEM and they are glued. These are US DOT lens that we are trying to replace with Euro lens. These are on 124 chassis 94-95. Simular to Euro, but a sealed unit.

ebennz,

MORE and LARGER pics are coming up!!
I am working on my own web site with a lot of C-class info and I hope to have it published within 1-1,5 week.

The side markers were optional during the first 2-3 years and became standard on all C-classes in some european countries. Most of the euro vehicles have those side markers.

some other picture are in the in PICTURES-EVERYONE CONTRIBUTE (page 4) on the performance paddock...
