Hi,

First off -Thanks to all of you for all your performance suggestions which I will get to later. I finally got my car back from the accident - it actually drove better after the accident than before because of the 17,000 than went into it. The doors close almost as well as the other side, but me being a perfectionist really notices it, but I'm sure the average person won't, and I would rather have my modded C-Class than a newer one or one of indentical year (those that mod your cars know there's nothing like it). Also of note, the body shop was able to buff out a three big scratches that someone keyed into the car, probably when they stole the hood ornament. I just have a few little details to do like clay a few areas, and I want to do the Meguiar's cleaner/polish/sealant/wax treatment to it.

Now on to the performance modifications. All I have to say is WOW. I dropped the car about 1.75 inches with the Jamex Springs and thinnest spring pads - there is no more fender gap - it looks really lowered and has virtually no body roll + plus the wider rear rims look awesome and fill up the fenders nice.

I got to try the car out with the shocks done first and it rode much better, but when the springs were put in- it handled so much better - it tracks so much better and corners great. Taking a bend at 70 is no problem. To anyone who doubts putting on lowering springs and stiffer shocks is questionable - go for it - the performance gains from it are incredible. Tearing up the freeway at high speeds is a breeze and darting in and out of traffic is awesome. Moreover, the ride is stiff, but not unbearably harsh - I actually prefer the stiffer ride than the uncontrolled luxo ride - I like the damping of the ride a lot more... I also got cross-drilled rotors and Axxis metallic brake pads which got rid of the mushy weak brake pedal - the pads aren't even seated and the car brakes awesome and initial bite is much better, plus the cross-drilled rotors are really trick. Also, the cold air intake is awesome and custom fabricated by my mechanic - it's really awesome on the higway - I can hear it sucking in that cold air like mad from the right brake duct in the bumper. All of these mods have combined to produce one awesome autobahn burner. I will post pics on the "Everyone contribute" thread as soon as I can get hold of a digital camera.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions,
Troy

Troy,

I can do nothing else but fully agree with you!!! There is nothing as good in driving a car as occasionally throw that car square through a (high speed) corner!
Putting on lowering springs, koni sport-shocks and 17" wheels is about one of the better enjoyable modification I have made to my car.

What exactly did you change in the complete breaking system?? I've been "driving" my car through the French grand canyon once and lost my brakes because of the braking fluid was at the boiling temperature! The ride was great until the brakes started to malfunction (scared the **** out of me) This had nothing to do with the braking fluid being bad or so...

waiting for the pics...
greetingz,

M Benz,

Is your C class a direct injection engine, or what? If its a diesel its not fast though Just kidding, my 98 Turbo Diesel E KLasse is really fast, when I first drove it I was surprised.

Its fast!

Hey Captain Alex,

My C-Class is the of 2.8 I6 gas engine - 24 valves, DOHC
The facelifted 202 C-Class and new C-class used V6 which suck for performance, don't have as many valves, and would sound horribe with exhaust. I6's are just very sweet engines with torque and plenty of horsepower. BTW, its fast. Everyone who rides it can't believe its as fast as it is. And with the new suspension, taking bends in the road at 60+ mph or even 90 mph is no problem. 0-60 is estimated by me and mechanic at 6.1-6.3, with torque braking + full throttle acceleration. Taking on rice burners and old GT mustangs, and other slow cars like 318, 323, 328 is so much fun. Hey if you were in Dallas, I'll race you in your E300 -!

CaptAlex,

My C-class is a simple 2.5 liter, 5 cylinder, 20 valve diesel with 350k km in it's past and to be honest it isn't fast at all....but then again....in the Netherlands we are not allowed to drive any faster as 120km/h, so the car is fast enough though. I've been to court once for speeding and I've recently been invited for a second court-visit...
The car is not turbo charged and is not direct injected (although I've been considering a 220CDI engine change).

I've driven the 1998 E220CDI of my father, the 2001 C220CDI of my uncle and another's uncle E270CDI; that last one was a damned fast diesel which even makes the 300 turbo diesel look slow (although it is not). I've driven several 300 turbo diesels as well and must admit they are nice to drive (with a nice 6 cyl.sound).

My C-class will not go any faster as 205-210km/h (this speed was once confirmed by a police officer who stopped me whilst I was doing that speed).

greetingz,

MBenz,

Nice picture!

All guages buried, now you don't see that often on this side of the pond.

One quick question for you, where is the road? Through the windshield looks completely black?

roas,

I have another similar picture taken whilst driving my 300SL-24 on the German autobahn...
The road on the C-class picture is in the Netherlands and the picture itself is taken at 23.39u, so by night. I've got another picture taken by day, but the speed on that picture is a minor 201km/h.

I've read your e-mail and do not know an answer right now; I will try to give an answer later this week...

more guages buried

greetingz,

Whoa!!!

It looks to me like your speedo is at 249 km/hr.
That's about 155 miles/hr !!!

Why drive a car when you can fly Air-Mercedes!

Was the rev limiter holding you back? It looks like you are pegged at redline.

Yes how do you take such pics, I agree with ss109, I'd never let go of the wheel at that speed.

Troydewan, I bought the car in Dallas . You Texan folks are great, very courteous honest and great people in general. I'd loose if I'd race you in my 98 E300 Turbo Diesel, however my 300E would stand a chance. My next ride, the 500E will be able to become a predator.

How did I take such pics....? WHIT A DIGITAL CAMERA of course...
For both cars this is the absolute top (flat out) and both cars handle very well and if I do let go of the steering wheel with such a speed, the car will maintain its straight course (although I do not try that very often!).
I had the camera in my right hand and made the picture (and several more).
The speed on the tacho of the C250D is very accurate and the speed on the tacho of the 300SL-24 is a bit to optimistic, but the car is limited at 250km/h and that is exactly how far it goes! The revlimiter pointing towards the red area did not hold me back; it was de fuel being cut off by the limiter at exact 250.
As you can see, the 300SL-24 needs more than 20 liters of fuel whilst cruising along at this speed and, unfortunately, the top was not down when I made this picture. Cruising the German autobahn with the top and the windows down at these speeds is FABULOUS!!!

on my E320, the limiter is supposed to kick in at 130MPH, but doesn't until about 134-135. Granted, it's not 155, but still...
