How difficult could a centrifugal supercharger installation be on the 103? I see them being added to all manner of engines these days. Couldn't you leave the CR stock and use low boost of 5-6 psi? How would you properly enrich the fuel mixture? Is the computer in stock form capable of delivering enough fuel? How about injectors, any insights? Fabricating a mounting and doing the plumbing should be fairly simple and the power gains should be substantial but hopefully within the drivetrains limitations. I just can't swallow $15k for a 3.6 or 3.0 turbo setup. Those mods give 275-300hp and I would be happy with 225 and the typically healthy torque boost of a charger. I would like to try it but I am concerned about getting enough fuel in, any ideas?

A centrifugal supercharger produces its boost as a linear function of rpm. Hence you will not get much low-end gains which is where the M103 is weakest. Were I building one I'd sooner look into going into a twin turbo setup...say a K-03 turbo for the low end and a larger size for top-end. No doubt you'd have to deliver more fuel. I'll defer to Benzmac for engine management issues... Either that or put an eaton (twin-screw) style supercharger on the M103 as they produce boost almost instantly. This would help low-end performance greatly.
Hope this helps...Lee |

I just can't seem to get a break on this issue. I still prefer the supercharger to any turbo setup. The extra heat and exhaust plumbing exceeds my desire for more power. I suspect that the intake and exhaust plenums on an Eaton are more complex than the simple tube in and tube out of a centrifugal charger. I suppose that the charger could sit on top of the intake manifold where the air cleaner resides now and an intake tube/filter assembly could be fabricated. I'm doing it in my head, of course my G has more room underhood than a 124. The drive would be fairly simple if the charger was on the manifold. I'll have to check my space limitations and the fuel issue needs to be addressed yet.

Give Paxton, Vortech, and ProCharger a call (Import racer Magazines on news stand should have ad's for them) and ask them for shop recommendations in your area? This may be worth a shot. If no luck, maybe you can give the guys over at Kleeman (Denmark, http://www.kleemann.dk/ ) another twist of the arm to see if they want to play on American soil yet? Boy...., they could be tapping a huge market over here?
A centrifugal supercharger would be a good choice for the person who needs the power at the low and mid levels (typical American driving style), but the problem is that there are not a lot of choices out there for the frugal shopper. A highly recommended shop in your area should be able to design and build something for you, but at what cost I have no idea? ------------------ Ross 96 C280, Greenish Black |
