Anyone know of any Cold Air Intake System for the CLK430 and E430? I see it for all the Bimwads, but none for the M-B guys. What is up with that?
What I mean by Cold Air Intake System, by definition a intake system that get outside cold air, and not from a simple K&N cone mounted on the air mass sensor that is taking in hot air from the engine bay. Please Advice! |

I haven't looked at the E class, but my 1999 C43 and 1983 300SD both take air from the grill area. On my C43 direct air is blocked by a plastic piece. the driver side slides out. The passenger side would have to be ground out with a file or rotory tool. This would then give a cold air intake system / ram air system. People on this board have done it - but rain and road debree (sand, etc...) have kept me from doing this. Good luck.

Question: the intakes are actually located behind the steel part of the hood not behind the grill. Why is the grill blanked-off? I had understood that it was to prevent water entering the intake. However, several newer cars, like the G35 Sedan and Passat, have a direct path from the gap between the grill and the hood to the air filter. In fact, after you raise the hood on the G35 you can see the pink air filter in its housing. These cars do not have any intake problems in the rain. Is there a problem specific to the C43? Has anyone removed the covers and driven the car in the rain? Any comments are appreciated. TIA

Mike, your point is valid. However, a true CAI consists of a conic filter located in the front of the car, ceramic coated intake tube to insulate the tube from the engine heat. The usual OEM setup consists of resonator, filter, and filter box. This setup impedes the air flow(breathing), therefore, it is not an optimized setup but less costly in designing and mfg. and less noise Noise is a big NO NO to many MB traditional buyers!
