I was just looking though the Percision catalog and saw a new intake for the 92-95 V8's. The intake has a 30% greater internal volume, but there is no hp rateing. The intake comes with 2 K&N airflters and is $599. Does anyone have this intake and did it give you any more performance over just the K&N's in the factory box.

www.precisionauto.com

They also have a chip that is said to give 10% more hp, but if you read more carefuly you will see that the test results used K&N filters.
Does this chip do anything to improve performance, or are the performance figures from the new air filters.

I also doubt the intake it too comes with the performance airfilters.

Thank you for any input.

I bought one of their chips just last week for my 500E. It was easy to install, and it did add noticable power. Unfortuneately it idled a little rough, so I phoned them and they told me to take it out and will send a replacement. When I put the stock chip back in it was obvious their chip had more power, not like I need it but...you know.

I'll post again to let you know how the take care of the problem.

You may want to check on the European Car article on my E500 web page about a tuner named Stuart Schikora who flow tested a stock '93 500E airbox and found it suitable for his extensive power modifications.

Bottom line...buy the chip but save your money on the airbox!!

Thanks for your replies but I have a 1994 E420. I kow that the intakes are the same, and should Precision sells for the 420's. I do enjoy talking about 500's thought.

Any help would be appriciated.

Subman,

It seems the people who replied to your msg have had good experiences w/ the chips sold by www.precisionauto.com for the 500E/E500. From the posts and from their website, they seem to be very flexible concerning their return policy, if you are unsatisfied w/ their product (however, I have never purchased from them before). You could always double check their return policy by callin' in. Anyways, I would personally give the chip a try, since it does give a semi-concrete statement concerning "10% increase in power" -> that would boost the car to 300+ hp right??? I don't think the performance gain that they had from testing the chip w/ the K&N filters was a result of the filters, since if you search through the forums, you will find that many people have experienced the same performance from a regularly-changed OE filters. As a fellow E420 owner, I would say to just give the chip a try, and see how it performs...and if it doesn't work, return it (if possible). If you *DO* try out the chip, definitely msg me on the forum...because I would be VERY interested in your results.

PS: I can't seem to find where they post info on the chip on their website. Could you plz post the specific URL? Thanx.

Did you happen to ask them how much the chip was? I'm thinking about getting one too... keep us posted on what you think if and when you get one.

Thanks,

Sorry to steal your thunder amigo but...

In talking with rabid extrordinaire Michael Curcio regarding his 92 500E with a PAD chip and K&N's he was pleased with the results. His opinion was that the airbox was good, just if there was any minor flow problems the K&N's should take care of it. The combo of PAD chip with K&N's in the factory box seems to work quite well. Care to add anything Michael?? (I know you are out there...) I know you have G-Tech results...j/k

Hope this helps...Lee

I was going to check my 500E with the G-tek but it was missing occasionally at idle and doing minor other funny things, so I didn't want to really push it until I knew what was up. The salesguy at Precission told me that their new chips do indeed change ingnition timing as well as fuel delivery. He was concerned that there was something amiss with the chip they sent me, and so I pulled it out. As soon as I get a new one, I'll time it with my G-tek. The best time I have tested so far is a 5.6 sec 0-60 but that is with a lot of ASR activity due to crap tires. I'm curious to see how fast it is with my new tires and wheels. Anyhow, I'll post the times when they get it sorted out.

Eric

The chip is 250 big ones plus 6 big ones for the 92-95 V8's. For all you V12ers their chip is 400 big ones.
As far as the website I could not even find the air box on the web site, but I'll do some pokeing around to try to find it. I am looking at a catalog if you want one send them a e-mail pad@precisionauto.com
The chip sounds like a good idea.

Have any of you E420/400E owners done a G-tech run and what were the results?

Thank you for any input.

I'd like to also recommend the Superchips EPROM for the M119 motor. At $250 US, it was a trouble-free DIY installation and the results were very satisfying. There has been no throttle hesitation or flat spots.

Just this a.m. I took a quick blast down the highway up to 240 kph (150 mph). Testing the wheel balance, you know

Update: PAD sent me a second chip - free. It seems to work better than the first chip, so I'm happy with them.

When I get my G-Tech back from my friend with the M3, I'll be able to post any gains in 0-60 times, and measured HP. Plus I should be able to say how much faster my car is than the M3 :-)

(Michael???) Have heard reports of PAD chipped 500E's (with a pair of K&N's in a stock airbox) pulling 0-60 in the very low 5's with mid 13 sec 1/4 mile. Still, no matter what chip/filter/etc those cars still suffer/gain MUCH more performance to ambient conditions.

On a 65 degree night I turned in a 5.18 0-60, backed by several low 5.2s (5.20, 5.22, 5.23). Best quarters were 13.68 @ 109, and 13.70 at 112. Not bad for an eight year old sedan, eh?

I doubt I'll look for anything more in the power department. Unless I come across a nice 6.0 looking for a home...
