Does the 2001 E55 have an oil drain plug or must a Topsider be used?

Thanks.

Rex,

Can you not find a plug?

There is a possibility that there is not one. My friend the MB tech came back from a technical conference of some sort in Chicago. He said that there had been talk of not putting a drain plug in the new C Class, but they decided at the last minute to put one in, for fear of the uprising from the DIY customers.

So, I suppose that there is a possibility of your car not having one. Have you removed the belly pan and looked for it?

Have a great day,

Yes Rex, there is a drain plug. To get to it, you have to remove the plastic engine pan (about 6 bolts if I remember correctly. Once you get it off, you'll see the drain plug. The new oil filter element comes with a new drain plug washer, filter assy seals and all. Good luck with yer oil change. BTW, when I changed my oil, the FSS did not adjust the mileage to service, in short, it did not detect the oil was clean.

Thanks Gary. The weather has been so bad or I would have removed the shield and looked for it myself. I am not due for a change yet, just wanted to be prepared.

Thanks again,
Rex

Gary,
As a safety net, the FSS is programmed to set the service/oil change light even if you do your own oil changes after a specific amount of time/miles have elapsed. In short, it tells you to change your oil even though it reads the oil as still being "good".

Hope this helps,
Lee
