If you look closely

you can see the headers are wrapped with insulation.

What Drier Hose?

If you look real close you will see 4 inch automotive air intake hose being held away from the exhaust manifold. Take another look see and the exhaust manifolds are performance wrapped.(an old hot rod trick). I've had this hose in service after the first day with drier hose. The D/H wasn't rigid enough, but worked OK. This 4 inch hose has been in service for 1700+ miles.NO PROBLEM! Just improved everything. Happy Trails Beep Beep from Houston.

It looks neat Donald, but has it achieved any improvement in power (or anything else)?, also why did you aim the new intake hose under the alternator, or is it aimed at the engine fan? I presume the idea is to get more cool air into the airbox, yes?

sorry about the drier hose thing! when i read your last unpictured thread, i thought it said you used a drier hose but i can see you just meant the intake fitting by the fan.
by the way, if it was a drier hose it still wouldn't hold up to the heat even with wraped headers. maybe the aluminum kind.
good luck!

donald lookig at the pics of the engine, I notice you have what appears to be an electronic ignition amplifier on the top of the radiator...

Am I right about that or is that something else all together?

What did you use to make the conversion from the airbox to the air intake hose?

Also what did you use to wrap the headers/exhaust manifold?

I'm planning on doing this to my car to see what happens.

You dont have a filter in the secondary air intake right? Since the main filter is already filtering it?

Keep me posted..

The whole scheme of it all is more air and cooler than under the bonnet. If more air was all you wanted, then just bore holes in the filter body; if you look close you can see I did just that. My holes were for pressure differential testing.I had no manometer, so I bored holes and covered them with Aluminum Tape. With just the standard air intake, the tape went concave, meaning the intake required more air than the snoot provided. That's why I opt'd for a second intake. It's position is NOT behind the fan. Wouldn't that be counter productive, HOT air. It is down against the lower body shield and aimed toward the front bumper. High static cooler air with an occasional rabbit or whatever roadkill you have. The intake grid is in place. It has been in heavy rain and puddles and piddles with no ingestion yet.(I doubt if I will have that problem). As to HP & torque or whatever your seeking, you came to the wrong turkey. I don't knw and I don't care. I performs as I expected and more. It Zooms and delivers 27-29 mpg at 70+mph with A/C. I hope this answers some of your questions. If not I'll try again. I'm preparing Bill of Mat'l and instructions. Happy Trails Beep Beep from Houston.

Alon, if you look at another view you will see a blue rectangle thing. That is a Jacobs Omni Magnum Ignition System and that thing on the fan schroud is the intercepter. To make the second intake in such a constricted area, I took the original intake and reversed it's postion then cut it to fit in the round section. An old hot rod trick is to wrap the exhaust manifolds keeping the heat in which excellerates the hot exhaust gases.I purchased mine from the Manufacturer, but you can do better in price and delivery from J.C.Whitney. I see they offer it in thier catalog. I used 2 inch wide 1/16 inch thick on a 50 feet roll. They provide stainless steel clamping material, but I've always removed the insulation from #10gauge wire and used the copper stranded wire. Cheaper and easier to handle. Think it over. Happy Trails Beep Beep from Houston.

Donald
from standing start, using four gears and no converter stall, manually shifting all four gears, 0-60,7.8-8.1 seconds per my Shako Cronygraf Tachmeter wrist clock. I'm pleased at this point. I'm sorry I didn't do this ten years ago.

It's pretty impressive to get that sort of mpg from a big ol' 3-litre straight six, and not bad performance either a 0-60 in 8 secs or less, and with A/C too - wow!

I wonder why MB didn't make the airbox that way (or less restrictive at least) to begin with, maybe they were concerned about the intake icing up in very cold climates or something?

Anyway, nice job!

James, UK.
