I'm looking for anyone who has experiences with sport suspensions- especially springs on 124 and 210 body E-class cars. Specifically which aftermarket brands have you used- ie Eibach, H & R, or others- how much car was lowered, overall ride feel, ie: was the ride much harsher, etc?
Also anybody who has had direct experience in more than one brand, and comparing one aftermarket brand spring versus another? Many thanks. J.G. |

While I have zero experience on the aftermarket springs, you can read my impressions on the Mercedes Sportline lowering/handling kit under the "cars" tab above. All said and done, about 3/4 - 1" lowering, maybe not enough for some tastes, but plenty for mine. Very minimal ride change, actually improved on smooth surfaces. Very dramatic handling changes. Cost was almost identical with the aftermarket parts I considered (Eibach, H&R) at that time. While I am happy with my results, others may want more lowering, and be willing to pay the price in ride and allignment issues. Good luck on your mods.

Jay,
The only lowering experience I have got is with Bilstein/Eibach. My former 190D was lowered about 6cm in front & 4cm in rear with Eibach springs and the #1 pads (8mm). I did not change my shocks back then and the handling of the car was suburb. I drove about 200k km with that car and needed new tires (195-50/15) every 50k km. The ride however was not as smooth as it was original, but was not entirely rough either. My current C-class is lowered approx. 5cm in front & 3cm in rear with Bilstein springs (Eibach is still printed on the springs as well), the #1 pads (8mm) and with Koni adjustable shocks. I have driven this car for 225k km now and since I have changed the shocks the handling is improved a lot (before the shock-change the handling was not nearly as good as with my former 190). I need new tires (215-45/17) every 50-60k km. Bottom line is that I am quiet happy with the Eibachs and the ride doesn't get that rough... greetingz,

I have a W210 with H&R springs only at this time with 19" rims. The handling is great. With the OEM 17" rims, the ride is very smooth. With the 19", it is firmer but still good. My wife enjoys the ride with the 19"; a flatter, more neutral feeling in turns.
I will eventually change the shocks to Bilstein. But for now the ride is good. H&R's has a lifetime warranty whereas Eibach is a few years. Both are good and you cannot go wrong with either one. I hope this helps. Eric

It was done at a Southern California shop called Sprewell Racing. It's online at http://www.sprewellracing.com.
It was a package deal with the rims. I remember the spring price was similar to that of http://www.tirerack.com. I do not recall the actual labor price but they were reasonable. Ask for Rex if you're interested. I'm using the number 1 bump pad all around which gives about a loose two-finger gap up front and a very tight two-finger gap in the rear. With the OEM 17" rims, the car looks stock and is barely noticeable.

I would say that the springs have little effect on the ride quality from stock to now. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being stock I would rate the lowered car at a strong 8 3/4 maybe even a 9. The only time you can feel the ride difference is over bumps and pot holes and the difference is not that much. When I compare the ride to the stock 1995 E320 it is almost identical. It's hard to tell the difference in the ride it is stiffer and the steering is more responsive and I dont think there is as much body roll. I would recommend a set, but keep in mind I still have the stock wheels and stock tire size. I love the lowered E420 especially the
way it looks. Now putting them on is anator story we did it without a spring compressor. I used Eibach. Subman

Jeneric i checked out thsat site. They have done some very nice looking benzes.
Glad to know of that shop as I live in southern California. And plan on tweaking out my suspension a bit sooner or later. I'm still debating doing the full MB sportline Suspension like JCE did, or going with a pieced together system consisiting of H&R or Eibach springs, Bilstein Shocks, and swaybar upgrade. Though not sure what to get. I'm not deciding until I meet up with JCE though and get to feelt he sportline suspension upgrade he did. Alon

I have H&R's on a w124 coupe with kyb gr-2's up front and stock shocks out back. Handles great even with stock sway bars, can hit mildly curved on-ramps at 90 with ease

I decided to go with Eibachs over H&R after some searching for my 260E. I'm very happy with the ride. Its firmer, but its far from feeling every bump in the road.
