Modifications for a Mercedes auto trans

I have a 1986.5 Porsche 928S automatic track car that I will be dismantling to change out it's torque tube and differential. The differential has lower gears which will make the car a bit more fun at my track days.

Since I will have the trans somewhat apart, anything I could do to make it handle the stresses of track conditions? I do most of my own work but have never done a trans. Just do a standard rebuild kit or is there something out there to modify the automatic a bit for this type of use.

For those that don't know, I'm asking this here since Porsche used Mercedes automatic units in the 928s which I believe were sourced from the 500 models. Thought if anyone should know something on this topic they would be here.

Thanks in advance,
Constantine

If your 928 is stock, you don't need to do a thing. The stock tranny will hold over 400 rwhp without any issues. The 928 guys are supercharging these engines and make some pretty extreme hp. Check www.rennlist.com for more information on your car and tranny.

Thanks for the reply! I've heard this before but wanted to be sure you Mercedes owners weren't doing something that is a known mod in your world but is not widely known.

I know about the SCing of 928s and I was given a ride in one at a 928 gathering in NC a few months ago. Truly awesome experience since it was a stock car with no other mods done to it and was weighing about 3500 lbs.

Cheers,
Constantine
