500E.com server fire / disaster recovery

Friends,

Due to a self-contained (but nonetheless destructive, internal) server fire, www.500E.com will be administratively down until approximately 15SEP05.

I apologize for any inconvenience(s) and for this non-500E-esque thread; as of this writing, I estimate that 80%-90% of all data will be recoverable.
Some posts and user registrations from late May 2005 until 24AUG05 may prove to be unsalvageable.

Moving forward, I will introduce additional (off-site) backup measures to "prevent this tragedy" (from happening again).

Kind regards,

That blows

Thank god for backup systems. You kick ass, Scott. 500ecstasy.com is a valuable resource with a bunch of great people. After all the trouble + $$$ I've been through with the C36TT I really wish that I had just gotten a 500E and done some transmission + engine management mods. Let me know how the Tiesto concert was. I'm planning on going to the MCI Center on Oct. 31st.

The megasquirt engine management system looks like a really cheap/customizable alternative to some of the engine management systems e.g. Motec. I am leery about open source software and hardware in general because I usually waste so much time/get frustrated getting it to work or learning how it works and then finding out that it doesn't actually do everything that I want or is a PITA to use but I imagine that getting a better understanding of how it works/modding might not be such a bad idea in this case.

Thanks for the update, Scott. I'm sure that a lot of folks were wondering what happened to the site.

Good luck getting everything up and running again. I thought you were hosting it off-site already though...

Cheers,
Gerry

As a pro with 30 years experience, may I ask you why the server wasn't backed up witn offsite storage, even in someone's home? This is SOP in the large system arena.

Respectfully yours, wb
