just bought a '92 124.034, 89k

i'll be hanging in this forum a bit more.

i just bought a '92 400e, 89k. #348 ice blue [window sticker, listed as pearl blue in mb reference stuff i could find] #246 blue leather.

is this an unusual color?

original owner offered me car 3 years ago [@ 62k], i had just bought an '02 explorer.

i told my friend/oroiginal owner i knew someone who might buy it. i was right [this time, anyway].

second owner [also friend] called me tuesday about it.

i took it to the dealership thursday for a check up. it needs brakes, rotors, drive belt, fluid change. [i'm going to do a full tune up too].

bought it about 2 hours ago.

tuesday afternoon to stealership for drive belt change and oil change.

BOSCH euro lights were ordered tuesday.

what kind of rotors and pads fellows?

i think i'd like cross drilled.
pads, not too dusty and hopefully some decent life.

i'll have to be able to stop that mother.

i've looked at fast lanes stuff...opinions

thanks

peter

Very nice car.

Can't wait to see it with the Euro's.

I've seen one other W124 in that color, and it came with Parchment interior. I think it's a handosme color.

Great choice! Welcome to the 400e club!

I must say I've never seen one in that color. It is uncommon even in an SL it seems.

We had an 87 300e that was that color (or close) that we dearly loved.

When it comes time to replace our 400e my wife wants me to find something in the light blue again...

BTW the 92 performs a bit better than the 93 at WOT due to an emissions change mandated in 93.

Enjoy!

Even 1992 500E's have more horsepower than '94 models.

The reason is due to fuel enrichment at WOT on 1992 models.

Actually it is the opposite. The 92 500E has 5hp more than later models because it supports WOT. The 92 400E has 5 less hp (269 - 92' to 274 - 93'+) than later models ( I am not sure but I think the compression ratio gets bumped up to 11 from 10.5 in 93).

The 400E and 500E are among the finest cars that MB has ever produced. I regret selling my 400E and will buy a 500E eventually. Highway mileage on the 400E is quite good 27mpg - 30mpg although city is 15mpg - 18mpg.

Peter,

Not only will you be hanging around here, but now you'll be able to hang with me on the freeway! Please tell us your sensations when it shifts from 3rd to 4th at red-line. Warning: You will need lots of empty and un-patrolled pavement.

When crusing home from work tonight, I held 95 mph for about 3 minutes on the freeway. That is a lot more "open road" than I'm used to at 5:00. These cars feel so steady and under control at speed that it makes a hard day's work melt away.

My baby is awesome. She is Metallic Beryll in color. She loves to move on the freeway. Its really fun to go about 30 mph then hammer it. She downshifts and will push you into your seat. Nothing like the feel and the ride of the 124. The maintenece is fairly inexpensive also. Mine is just as expensive to run as my mom's 300TE wagon. They get about the same fuel economy, so it is a good deal... You will have fun pulling up to rice rockets on the freeway, then pullling away from them. Youll have fun. Happy Driving.

Thumbs up

Nice score Peter...the color is sweet.

Wait until you get it up over 120 mph .... that's where the M119 likes to be at !

Which rotors and pads did you decide on?

What size wheels and tires?

I have the same car (different color) and would like to upgrade the tire wheel combination. Can you tell me what you have on yours which by the way look very good.

Thanks,

Bertrand
