Just installed the Remus Twinpipe DTM (rear silencer) and Super Dynamics (center muffler) on my 280SEL,does make a nice low throaty rumble, but performance-wise,it seem to be pretty much unchanged except at when the RPM hits 3000,then the push is stronger. I heard that performance exhuasts only hit the high-ends,not the low-end torque, how true is this?

Well,i'm planning on changing to performance headers too,but apart from the lack of options for this car,i'm wondering if it's really worth the buck.

Any one likes to share?

But oh,if you're into looks, the chromed DTM pipes do make a statement, nobody misses it.

If you don't mind me asking, how much was it? Also, where did you get it?

Thanks

...DTM endpipes...

I know that there are not that many Diesels in the States, but try to imagine a Sebring muffler with double (round 76mm) DTM endpipes on a C250D that nearly ever gets washed...
The muffler is "sooting" the car's rear into something completely black (license plate included)...
It is a nice side-effect for drivers who want to be untraceable from radar pictures!

DTM Pipes

Hi Oliver, sorry I forgot to mention that I'm living in Singapore,a tiny country in SE Asia.Got it here at a reputable exhuast specialist for approx. US$550 for the Remus and the Super Dynamics, plus labour. Its a Universal pipe,so it fits most cars.

I see you're driving a 126 too? What mods have you done to it so far?

And to MBenz,I agree with you about the sooting!!Hahahaa....it did cross my mind earlier when I installed it,but so far I am able to keep the rear bumper in its sliver pristine condition by waxing the bumper above the DTM outlets regularly.I use Autogylm Super Resin, and its real good at removing those stubborn stains, even at getting someone else's paintwork off your bumper if you happened to have a slight brush with their cars when doin those tight parking stunts. So I guess it'll be some more time before I get a camoflouged licence plate,hee......

I'll see if I can get a digital camera from a fren,so I can post the pics of the DTM here to share.

Mervin,

That is a good idea. I will post a picture of the unrecognizable rear of my car as well.
As far as the waxing of the car goes...I only wash my car once per 25-30.000km and wax it maybe once every 1,5 years.
I don't like to rub and polish my car that much, I prefer driving it. The inner side of the car HAS to be clean, the outer side looks very well when it is clean, but looks almost better when it is realy dirted up...

Hi,

I haven't really done any mods to my 300se. I've replaced the wheels which were looking tired, but I replaced them with the original design (15 hole). I have added a Blaupunkt head unit (the Kansas DJ) with a 10 disc auto changer. And I have spent thousands on servicing to make sure it is running A1.
I'm looking to increase the tire width, and probably fit a new exhaust with a bit more kick to it.
My next job is to get some of the paint work re-done.
Other than the above, I'm going to try and keep it original.

Cheers

Here are some pictures showing the advantage of a DTM muffler underneath a Diesel. I have been caught speeding by radar several times, but never got the fine!
The down side, however, is that I get stopped by the police quiet often, but that doesn't cost that much...

Hi MBenz, NOW i know what you meant by the sooting up! That's really kinda extreme, the entire licence plate is camoflouged!I wonder if its the climate conditions over there, cos my DTMs have never gotten that far with the soot.

And talk abt the police,I have been more paranoid abt them since getting the DTMs.Hmmm.....I wonder if I shld change back to more subtle tips someday and so have less sleepless nites, hahahaa...

cheers

Mervyn,

The first picture was taken whilst I went for a bungee-jump trip to the south of France. I had to drive approx. 3200km and left my house friday in the evening and had to be back at work on monday 8 o'clock. I was a bit in a hurry and cruised to the south of France doing a constant 200km/h with my diesel for more as 1000km. The muffler was just installed back then and this performance probably burned out the isolation material (the exhaust muffler was smelling like "hell" when I had to get out of the car to fill up the tank).
The second picture shows that the license plate is not able to reflect any in-coming light anymore, so...let the radar traps be put up!

I have my driving license for 9 years now and think I have been stopped by the (german, french, poland's but especially the DUTCH) police for 50-60 times and to be frankly: I do NOT care.
I have been stopped for this unreadable license plate four times now and have NEVER cleaned it up whilst I was stopped (although they ordered me to) and only got one fine for it (which was cheaper as the average fine for speeding).

Just keep the DTM muffler and don't worry about the police!

greetingz,

50-60 times?!?! Wow,that's quite a record as far as I can imagine, and to think that the police from several countries are involved, phew!Hats off to you,MBenz!Come to think of it,you must have gotten so used to being stopped,it is now nothing to you,yah?Cool.....ok,my DTM's are here to stay, thanks for the inspiration.

By the way,I suppose you're an adrenalin kinda person, yah?Whats with the bungee-jumping and all that.I tried bungee once too in Australia at a height of 45m,it was ok.The skydive I did earlier was actually more nerve-wrecking,at 12,000 ft.If you havent tried it,go and have a taste of it,it is really fun!

Mervyn,
The more adrenalin, the better! That is probably the reason why I do not like driving flat out on highways, but prefer Asocial high speed behavior on the 1,5 car wide roads here in europe!
I have posted some of the bungee-jumping pictures on my own web site (link below under the post); it was GREAT.

The next step IS skydiving and I plan to do this when I have to fill my spare time when I am in the states!

Exhaust System

I have seen custom built exhausts for diesels with a pure stainless element inside. So there is no blow out of the baffles.

They are clamped in or welded.

Also, you can decrease on the soot by adding a propane kit. This type of system will add about 50 more horses and also increase fuel economy by some 15% or more.

Most diesels do not burn 25% of the fuel.

Another thing you can do is buying a performance injector system. Like a variable pattern spray injector. Most injectors have a fixed pattern. You want one which changes as the motor is firing. You will need to have the injection tuned as well to fire correctly.

Thanks

Hi there

I'm also from Singapore. I have a set of W126 Zender bodykit for the W126 280 series. Also an AMG Boot spolier. Let me know if you'd be interested.

I must see some pics. Mervyn, your car rules. I am considering a Remus muffler myself at the moment.

Matt.
