Steve- glad you like the 400E calipers. Supposedly my 300TE uses the same calipers. . .

I have a set of 500E calipers & rotors (front & rear), as well as a set of front calipers for a Mercedes C36 Medical Car which uses 14-inch rotors and Wilwood calipers.

I haven't yet decided which one to put on.

Since you're an actual racer, what do you know about the Wilwood calipers? Any good for everyday driving, or should I just go with the 500E calipers & rotors?

Thanks,

:-) neil

Neil,

I've used the Wilwood calipers before, they're really nice.

The understand that the 500E brakes are made by Brembo for MB.

I'd go with the 500E setup because it's based on a production application. Meaning that they're ready for abuse on the streets. You'll be able to get pads and parts easily. I know that Wilwood's are on a lot of street rods and race cars and working just fine.

Just my opinion!

Steve

For the record, my '92 was "upgraded" to 500SL-sourced calipers in '96, which were in fact manufactured by Ate. Lots of different brakes floating around that are said to be 500E-sourced, and most likely are, so run part numbers if possible to know for sure. But ultimately all parts, as long as MBZ-spec, should be plenty robust & durable.
