190E V8 5 Liter
Being Old School, I've seen too many 454 Camaros, 427 Novas, 427 Ford Fairlanes, and 426 Hemi Darts. For you unfamiliar with these names, ther're simply big engines in small cars. Why can't you put a V8 into a 190E. Most of you know much more about Benzes than I ever will, but I have a 190E 5-speed that I hope to add more power (I don't like having my doors blown-off by Civics). Would appreciate any help and comments. Thanks

There's a red one that pops up on eBay every so often, and has been discussed on this website a few times. I can't remember what year it is, or which V8 the guy stuffed into it. Apparently it has serious cooling issues.

A member here, tobiasMB, in several threads outlined his installation of a Ford V-8 and installing a rack and pinion steering system to accomodate the larger engine.

Well, Chevy put a V-8 into a Beretta, calling it a Feretta...

Best engine to use would be the very lightweight Rover (or small block Chevy) all alloy 3.5 Ltr V8, actuly is less than the std 2.3-16v straight 4 and VERY tunable.

You could always do a turbo on your 16v and a TEC-III ECU, good for 400HP.
Donne Drummonds (sp?) did this . . . :-) neil |

i think that you will
find that the rover / buick v8 is pretty wide. i think a mb v8 would be the best alternative. if wanting a us engine i would suggest a ford small block. it is the narrowest by 4 or 5 ". the buick is actually exactly the same as an iron buick v8 dimensionally but cast in al and uses a much smaller bore and stroke. the heads are al too of course. but the iron blocks heads and intakes all are interchangable (to some degree) with the aluminum stuff. lots of tuning opportunities, but a mb v8 is readily available and not too expensive used and will be a lot more compatalble with your 190. i would use the same year if possible.

OM603 and 606 I6s are narrower than the V8s, and both have been put in 190 chassis.
http://www.mersuforum.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11949 Note that luuucas is getting 426hp and almost 600ft-lb from the 606 in his 190, and jorma has a 124 with a 606 in it, set up for high revs, 527hp. Another fellow (rehtijii) has a W123 with a 606 that hasn't seen a dyno, but quarters in the 13s with street tires. (I've seen video, the first time he took it to the track he made the mistake of flooring it and left rubber for over 100 yards) There have been a few claims of over 400hp from a 12v OM603 with Holset Hx40 turbo, but I think the 24V 606 is easier to get the higher hp from.
