Just wanted to post that some friends of mine are putting on a lap day at S.I.R. (Seattle International Raceway) on thursday, June 7th, so I wanted to make sure everyone who is in the area knows about it. It's a great way to get a feel for the abilities (and limits!) of your car, with professional instructors and tons of fun. Here's the link:

See you there!

Oh no, I better not show my Wife this one!!!

She has been dreading the day when I can properly and legally thrash the 500E, looks like the wait may be over!

I can't wait either... I hear there's a track day this saturday in Portland also, but I probably won't make it since I don't have a helmet yet... (and refuse to pay the outrageous prices locally when I can get one much cheaper online!). As it turns out, I work with a guy who is a part time instructor at SIR, so I may hear of other track dates sooner. If I do, I'll keep everyone here posted.

enjoy your rides,
-Doc

Here's a great site for helmets. If you do plan on racing, you need a SA2000-certified helmet. I'll prolly get the Bell M2... nice oversized viewing area.

Dr. Julio Fuentes,

Are you still attending this event? I am thinking about attending.

I should be there... just gotta remember to schedule that day off of work, eh? : ) I just ordered my brake upgrades yesterday too... stainless steel lines, slotted rotors, and mintex pads! Can't wait to test them out on the track. I've been having a blast autocrossing lately... you should definitely come out for that too. Lots of fun, and less stressful on the car than track use. Plus it'd be nice to see at least ONE other Benz out there!

hope to see you there,
-Doc

I would love, uh... Ashley and I would love to make it to some autocross events.

My only concern is the excessive wear and tear that will surely happen to the car, and since I am on a students budget if something broke that would not be good!

Maybe things will change shortly for me, in which case we will soon meet, for speed is in my blood and always has been.

BTW, which helmet did you go with, the open face appeals to me more than the full face at the moment and I am interested in your opinion?

Autocrossing isn't nearly as hard on a car as track running... in fact there are numerous classes just for stock vehicles. At most you're doing 3-4 laps during a session, and each lap is usually under a minute depending on course design. Track days however, have much longer running times, and are tougher on brakes and such. I don't plan on going very hard on the track... just there to get a feel for the car's limits at a *slightly* higher speed than your typical autocross course. : )

I'll be picking up a Bell M2 helmet from http://www.racerwholesale.com ... you need a SA2000 certified helmet for track use, and this one has a nice large viewing area for my glasses.

Hmmm... you're a student with a 500e? I should have been so lucky! : ) I had a 1979 Scirocco with power nothing!

happy driving,
-Doc

Dr. Julio Fuentes,

I am still considering showing up to this track event but I did not notice your name on the list.

Only 5 days away and I am intching to see if the PAD chip I just installed will be noticeable.

I'll be there! Had a few setbacks... (wrong helmet and brake lines were shipped), but I should have all the components in and the car prepped for track day. You've got to let me ride with you in the 500e!
