Anybody know where you can get cool grills for w126 modles with the big star in the middle (ala the Benz in Three Kings)

Jason,

My opinion is that those grilles on a car with a hood star just look cheeseball.

On an SL, SEC, or CL, they look fine, but with the chrome grille surround, I think the star grill looks horrible and as I said before Cheeseball.

Why not pop out your grille insert and paint it black.

It really updates that car, and looks much much better than the grey grille insert.

What you decide to do is up to you, and I'm not telling you not to do it, I just think its the cheesiest grille for a benz period. Every time I see someone with one on their benz I say to myself, now theres someone who ruined a perfectly good looking benz...

Sorry for the obviously abrupt opinion, but I'm stickin to it.

Erebuni might have what you are looking for though.

Agreed. Let the BIG STAR grilles stay with their stock. You should definitely paint yours black -- it's the only way to go IMHO.

OK OK I won't do it. I have seen a couple of 300Es with SEC style grills and they do looks kind of cheesy. It was just a thought running through my head. The one on Three Kings didn't look too bad, but I get the point.

JP

PS Grill insert was painted black this summer after I saw you guys recommend it to someone else on this posting. It really does look great.

Symmetrical is how it looks, cant get any cleaner than that, and fromt he back, looks like a 95 easy. fromt he front apart from grille and headlights, looks good too. When I do the euro's it will be hard to tell the difference.

But yes I think it looks great without the 300 CE Badge on it.

I used to think it was because the person was trying to hide what the had, or make people think they had a 500SEL when they had a 300SE. or some thing.

Now I appreciate the way it looks, sometimes I think its naked without it, but then I think of how clean and symmetrical it looks, which is perfect for a benz.

I've seen where you can change the grill on the early W124's, to look like that of the 94/95 300's. The kit cost's $249. without the grill. Just as you would know the grill itself also costs about $250. The kit is by AvandeGarte. It was in the Tuning Zubehor catalog.

Are you talking about the kit to convert it to the SL style or SEC Style grille itself, where the front looks similar to the actual car and not the grille insert on its own?

Or are you talking about a 94-95 look on a pre 94 124 series car?

I could probably get my body shop guy to modify a 94-95 hood to work with the euros so I wouldn't have to do the 94-95 headlights, but that could get expensive.

I think an easy solution would be to paint the chrome grill almost entirely the same color as the car, apart from the inner chrome around the inser the very thin raise part, and the chrome grille strips. then painting the insert black, and voila, wouldn't look too bad I don't think.

To make it even better, you could also have him fill in the gap between hood/chrome grille with bondo or something, and make it look like one piece. the only thing that comes to mind would be the paint cracking there easily due to stress.

Any way I look at it my car with euro lights will need nothing else done to the grille.

I love the look of the 94-95 hood and sleeker grille, but not as much as spending a small fortune on it, when that small fortune can go under the hood... hehe

I would rather spend money upgrading the suspension over changing out the hood or grille.

Alon,
I'm talking about the 94/95 look on a pre 94 W124.
I was also considering painting the grill like you spoke of, but I received alot of neg. feedback on painting chrome.
By the way, one nice looking car you have. Over the winter I'm going to install the 94/95 tails and the rear trunk deck to the car.
