I've been looking at the pictures of the members cars in the Post Your Pics thread, and I must say there are some nice looking rides out there How about that gallery idea, is it going anywhere? Anyways, I noticed that nobody had the chrome wheel well moldings on thier cars, why is this? Out of date? Unfashionable? High cheez factor? I had them on a yellow 79 280E and it looked great, was even thinking about doing it to my smoked silver 91 300E.
I was driving around town the other day and I saw a Benz with a horse shoe attached to the front grill. I thought about it for a minute and it had to have been the first one I saw since living in Germany many years ago. Does anybody know what the horse shoe is for? They were common place on the Benzs in Germany but I never bothered to find out what they ment. Am I missing the obvious here... it's for good luck while driving? Just curious.... EADG 91 300E Cheers for now. |

lots of those horse shoes in the Netherlands as well...
they are ment to let the world know that there is somebody driving that car who prefered to use a horse... It is just a sign to let anybody know what the driver thinks of horses. gruße aus Stuttgart,

I myself kind of like the chrome fender trims, but I prefer the car without them.
I think it depends on the car. Since my car has so little chrome, adding more would just be out of place. But if my car was a classic benz, with lots of chrome, I think they look very good. My brother when he bought his 85 380SL had those chrome strips on the car and removed them because he did not like them. Me, I think if you like ema nd think they look good then thats all that matters. My personal taste is to not have them on my car. Alon

Chrome fender trim
I have seen the Chrome fender well trim on a 300E like mine, but haven't been able to find the chrome pieces themselves.. The guy who had them told me to look in a (gag) "Lowrider" magazine. He also had put the later model rocker panels with chrome adornment aswell as the chrome accented door handles. He's selling the car and offered to sell me the rocker panels and new door handles (he'll put in his old ones when he sells the car) but he wants like $600 for them claiming that the dealer charged him $1300....
Anyone know where I could pick those pieces up at a reasonable cost? ( Rocker panels, door handles of later model 124 w/ chrome accents) Thanks Jason M. |

Jason, you don't have to buy the whole rocker panel just to get the chrome fender trim. I wouldn't want to go out and buy a new stereo everytime I wanted to listen to a cd...
Both the fender trim and the chrome door handle brackets can be bought for less than US $200, here's the URL http://www.adsitco.com/access.html There are a few other chromed parts avalable from that site also; Door jam plates, edge gaurds, mirror backs ect. I had anouther URL for chrome parts and the prices where about the same, however I'm not able to find it at the moment. If and when you purchase and apply the chrome fender trim I'd love to see some pics. Cheers for now, EADG 91 300E |

Dear EADG, are you still living in Germany? I am searching high and low for this aftermarket grille for my W126 (280SEL), and I have heard that I can get it in Germany. It is bascially a simple DIY grille insert, but instead of a plastic mesh (as in the OEM), it consists of several vertical metal strips in brushed aluminium. Pretty nice. I have searched the web for sometime, but no results.
Any leads in Germany? Or are there fellow residents of Germany here who can help me out in locating these companies that carry such a vertical grille? Thanks! Mervyn PS. I have posted a thread on this a while ago, but no results too. |

The chromed fenders make the W126 look very elegant. I have them on, and fixed it for my dad's W124 too, thought the effect wasnt as reassuring. However, the W123 looks better WITHOUT it.
The retail cost plus installation is RM60-00 here, for a set of 4. So, its about USD15. DIY ought to be cheaper.

Rocker Moulding
EADG,
Thanks, but I meant the rocker molding with the continuous chrome stripe ( like the later 124's 94-up) and the door handles with a chrome stripe on them. Just clearing that up Thanks again Jason M. |
