It looks very good outside. You did not say what year or how many miles but, it looks like a pre '92 (most likely a pre '89) with updated wheels. Is it a REAL AMG? What about the interior and the engine?
Give us more details.

Looks great. I wouldn't do anything to it, except change the oil, filters and other fluids regularly.

I second what 420SEL said.

Is this a real AMG? If so, what has been done to the engine?

My 88 300E has 175,000 miles and going strong. Take care of this car and it will last a long, long time. This car cost well over $40,000 US when new.

Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving,

In response to the previous posts. Its has 109,677 miles on it. It is a 1986 Mercedes 300E, I am not exactly sure what is included in the AMG package, but I do know that the car is quite fast. I also know that the car was actually made in Germany and then imported to the US, therebye beating the stringent emissions rules. The previous owner said that he had done "everything" to the car. It had a 1995 body upgrade. The engine was completely upgraded in 1997. I also have the doduments to prove it. It currently has a 1998 Sony soud system, which i am currently upgrading with a Sony M-750 face and one of the red Sony XPLod changers in the trunk. Tell me if their is anything else you would like to no, and if possible what the AMG actually means (I have a slight understanding but not totally, and other Mercedes Owners ask me all the time and I never can fully satisfy there questions). Thanks for all the help.

well to start off, Euro Headlights, Clear Front Indicators, and the 94-95 red/smoked tail lights.

other than that, keep the car maintained, and wash it so it stays clean.

Looks nice, perhaps you can post more about what was exactly done to the car.

I hate to say this, but I don't see how the body was upgraded to a 94-95 style when the hood, headlights, side cladding, and bumpers are the same as an 86 300E. If it was a 94-95 the cladding would be solid not a thin strip, the hood with grille insert would be different, and the trunk lid would be different, not to mention the headlights, tail lights and front indicators.

The car looks very clean, enjoy your new ride, you will soon realize its one of the best cars made.

Sorry benzix but your car is not an AMG. If it were you would definitely have AMG wheels. You would also have an AMG body kit on the car. Your car just has the stock look. And that spoiler, I don't think AMG even makes a spoiler like that. Also, if it were an AMG, it would no longer be badged a 300E. They would have changed the name. And AMG would definitely not put a grey AMG badge on a car that has silver badges. Now I might be wrong about this, but didn't AMG use the updated badge by 1986?

Sorry guys but all I see here is a very nice and clean example of a stock 300E pre '89. The headlights are not the Euro ones everything looks factory on the outside except the spoiler which I don't think is AMG. The only upgrade is the new style wheel. Nice and clean but bone stock (maybe the exhaust is different can't really tell).
If you want to modify it I agree with Ashman: Euro lights, clear indicators, paint the grill to mach the bodycolor, lower it, put some 17" wheels on preferably AMG or Brabus and if you have some money left put some Remus exhaust on. And you gonna have one killer looking car. I got a pic of a factory AMG 300CE here (it is black on white with three piece 17" monoblocks on spoiler all around) but not sure how to put it on since I don't have a page to point the UBB Code to. Sorry. I can e-mail it to someone to put it up.

1) Strip the AMG sticker off - you won't kid any honest MBZ fan with it anyway and the best thing to do with these cars is to go stealth (ie: blow past the unsuspecting victim rather than trying to hoopty-up your ride w/o being able to back it up).

2) Are you tinted? Tint looks good on black paint and the stock windows have very little (if any) tint incorporated into the glass. The best el-cheapo thing you can do for appearance. Scratch that: the second best el-cheapo, with the first being a good detail and wax job.

3) Save a few bucks for repairs. There's bound to be a few little surprises on any 198x car regardless of how recently 'upgraded'. And little surprises are rarely little expenses with MBZ.

4) Enjoy it! These are great cars. They can teach you a lot about driving and should you wrap it, they're pretty safe to boot.

In answer to your question, AMG stands for (sorry in advance for the spelling errors!)"A" for Hans Werner Aufrecht, one of the co-founders;"M" stands for Aufrecht's partner, I believe whose name was Melcher or somthing similar, and "G" stands for Grossaspach, the town where they got started.

Tx Bill,

In Benzix's 2nd post he asked - "...and if possible what the AMG actually means..."

Hence my response

Tx Bill,
My friend has a black '79 300SD with black interior with very dark tinted windows. They bought it new. It is pure class. I am not sure if I would tint the windows on mine though because the color is ivory with brown interior.

In several states there are limits on the "percentage" of tint that is legal. I forget the exact numbers, but it's either NY or Pennsylvania that have a definite limit on the darkness of the tint. Lots of the darker tints are definitely illegal in some states. I'd check your local laws before applying a tint that may be illegal somewhere.

There is no doubt that tint makes the car look different, but ... a month or two ago, I saw a black W140 S-class with AMG trim parked in front of my workplace one day, and I felt a certain apprehension. I resisted the urge to walk over and check the car out, and just walked away, trying not to stare. I know, weird.

PA has a limit for tint on vehicles, the fronts are restricted to an extremely low number, the windshield is not allowed to be tinted at all. I've seen cops here use a ticket on the back side of the window to test. If they can't read the ticket they give you a razor blade and tell you to go to town or you're getting a nice ticket in the ballpark of $180. For that reason, I don't bother with tint at all. I stripped the tint from my CRX when I purchased it and never tinted my Olds or my MB. The way I see it, the less I have to deal with the authorities the better.
