Final Post on behalf of my 500e
Received word today that my 500e did not survive the events of Sunday night when wife and I were returning home from her Birthday Dinner. Empty bags of Cement on the Highway 2 miles from home caused the driver to my left to panick, initate an uncontrolled skid which which produced a clockwise spin across 4 lanes of traffic, but not before slamming into my left rear, initiating my own 360 in the opposite direction.
The car did everything it should have to keep us safe, we ended up facing the right direction in the same lane we started in proceeding along as though nothing had happened (aside from the complaints of a broken axel, crunched door and rear quarter panel and blown rear triange window), nobody the worse for wear. These cars are amazing; the offending vehicle can't say the same and was much worse off (driver was fine and was apologizing profusely while we waited for the tow vehicles). I'm sure ASR did what it was supposed to. On to the web to choose my next ride. Anybody know of a pristine W124 '92 500e out there? Regards,

Glad to hear everyone is a OK.
On a side note, how much would they sell the car to you for ? If the front end and drivetrain is still good, I'm looking into making a 500E hit in the rear into a wagon . . . :-) neil |

It happened to me too.
My son totaled my 500E about 4 months ago (see threads/pics).
I thought I wanted another 500E but ended up buying a 2001 E55. I have not looked back once! The car is phenominal and modern. All the things I wanted in the 500E:
Best of all the same price range and better gas mileage 20%! |

Sorry to hear about the demise of your car, but very happy to hear that you and your wife are A-OK.
Best wishes for finding another E500E or something else to your liking. There are a number of cars out there for sale, with more on the market all the time. Prices continue to drop slowly but steadily, so you ought to be able to find a very nice car for a decent price. Cheers, Gerry |

I second the thought that I'm glad you and your wife are okay, and of course I sorry to hear about your 500E.
I wish you the best on its replacement or "proxy".

I'm living proof!
I was the original owner of the 500E w/75K before it's demise. My insurance settlement purchased a E55 w/37,000miles Starmarked (List $30K) less $1K.
The truth sometimes hurts. |

So even with low miles your insurance paid $29,000 for a 500E? WOW! You've given me all sorts of ideas, unfortunately they are all felonious.

I'm not pooh-poohing anyone personally at all, but just about to a person, everyone I've ever met who has owned a 500E/E500 and later on a W210 E55 AMG, has lamented the fact that they sold the E500E.
This goes for several MB shop and wrecking yard owners in both Europe and the US, as well. All say there is no comparison based on their observations, and personally they would own the E500E hands down. But to each their own. I am sure there are distinct benefits to the E55 AMG not to mention that it does look more like the current W211s. I do know that 55 AMG values have come down dramatically in the past few years. Cheers, Gerry |
