2002 C 240 -peformance enhancemetn

I own a 2002 C 240 stick shift which I bought new from Fletcher Jones 4 years ago. It has low mileage (15000). I have never been satisfied with the pickup at low engine rpm. I think the problem is the timing chip which has been optimized to pass the California smog requirements, not to maximum engine performance.
Is there anything that can be done to improve the car's performance. Neither Brabus or Kleeman was able to help me.

Thanks for your help.
