Cool 6.0 fiends

You guys are INSANE: but 100% correct.

As soon as my new interior is done, I will entertain quite seriously that very prospect... something I will do, eventually, assuming RENNtech doesn't pull the plug on the W124.

Just out of curiousity Scott.

Have you changed the ignition control module that was mentioned a while back?

I had this intermittent stalling problem and a new ICM solved it. But not before I changed a whole lotta other stuff.

Peace.

Scott,

Have you had any success on the stumble problem?

Mine has reared its ugly head again today. Solution is still turn off the car and wait 10-15 minutes, then problem is solved for a period of time which varies.

Mine has occurred often enough that I have begun to notice a trend. Sustained operation above 3000 rpm's tends to trigger the beast but not always. But its rarely, in fact has never been triggered, without sustained operation above 3000 rpms.

If I drive sedately 10 miles to work on my normal non-interstate route (never above 55 mph), the problem never arises.

If I drive home via the interstate 70-80 mph, the problem is more likely to surface, usually only in mild form.

However, this weekend I was a bit more zealous for a longer period of time and the beast returned in spades. In 4 different segments of my travels around town during the afternoon, it would return, I would park, shop, return, problem gone, restart and go someplace else only to have the problem return. Car never dies, it just runs rough.

I have historically tripped various fault codes (active and stored) reset them and all is fine for several weeks... until I forget and play the over 3000 rpm sustained game again.

Does yours do anything like this.

I will be going in for surgery this month and will not be able to drive for a couple of weeks. Before I go in, I hope to get the car down to Donnie and let him have at it. But I have to work out some work/personal logistics to accomplish this. Mine also still has intermittent cold start racka-racka's which I also hope to have Donnie investigate. I have been trying to get the car to Atlanta for some time now, but it's now my primary transportation and work load has not allowed me to part with it that long.

Keep me posted & I'll do the same.

Dwight

thank you, Dwight!

I wish you the best and a speedy (W124-036!!!) recovery, re: your surgery; I will apply your hypothesis/findings to my scenario and reply, ASAP.

Have a nice weekend,

Just out of curiousity. How does the ASR system work, I assume it has front and rear wheel sensors and when one sensor is showing a higher speed than another the ASR kicks in?

If this is correct what type of sensors are being used and how often should they be maintained? Is it possible if you haven't already changed these sensors that maybe they need to be changed?

I'm just throwings ideas out to hopefully solve a problem that I think we all will eventually have.

been there/done that (ASR + speed sensors)

Thanks, though!

My next efforts/replacements will be:

- brake-booster check-valve
- crankshaft position sensor

Scott, as much as you hate to give people your money who don't work for it, you need to go to Stead in Walnut Creek. Yes they are bad at returning calls, but they have gotten better lately. I have been to them twice and they have started returning my calls. I told you before I mentioned your issue to a shop foreman done there and he said it sounds familiar as if there was a service bulletin about it at some point in time. Drag your @$$ down to Walnut Creek, it can't hurt.

Scott, call the service department and ask to speak to Andy (Female). Tell her I referred you to her. Explain your situation and tell her to put you in touch with a shop foreman. I am not sure what is up with Ernie, hell I don't even know if he takes calls. I am going to be down there on Thursday (supposedly) so I will give them a holla for you.

Scott,
Is your car still stalling? It's been nearly 2 years since you originaly posted this and still not fixed? If this is the case please do yourself a favor, call George at MBZ Motors in Canoga Park CA 818-709-5400. He is the owner and I strongly believe he can figure it out. I dont know if you're willing to take the drive but talk to him maybe he can help. On many occasions he gave me information to my problem without even seeing my car and everytime he was right on the money. I hope you get this problem solved. GOOD LUCK

I KNOW YOU HAVE HAD IT DONE, BUT THE EA THROTTLE ACTUATOR
HAS BEEN KNOWN TO BE UN-RELIABLE. I HAVE HAD 2 FAULTY UNITS BACK TO BACK NEW! LOW IDLES AND STALLING SEEM TO
BE THEIR FAULTS AS THE ELECTRIC MOTOR FOR THE IDLE AIR ADJUSTMENT CANNOT COMPENSATE FOR LOADED IDLE CONDITIONS FAST ENOUGH (A/C, P/S AT LOCK, ECT..)
BEFORE YOU GO POSTAL, MAYBE YOUR DEALER WOULD BE WILLING TO TEST FIT ON YOUR CAR. IT REALLY ONLY TAKES AROUND AN HOUR TO PUT IT IN AND A 3 DOLLAR GASKET.
SEEMS LIKE THEY OWE IT TO YOU AFTER ALL OF THIS!
GOOD LUCK!

Geez, two years with this! Unbelievable.

Just pure curiosity here:

When it stall, how does it feel? Does the engine feel like its increasingly loaded down? Think of a manual transmission car trying to negotiate a tight uphill turn in too high of a gear. Eventually it will load up, start bucking, and stall.

Conversely, is it like it just starts missing, then eventually the misfire becomes so bad that the engine stalls?

I've seen your car around the Bay. Trippy.

symptoms

When my 500E stalls, first it starts to anticipate its predicament... then it gets clocked in the face -
follwed by a stuporous "whaaaaaat????," a stagger, then a fall.

>>WHAM!<<
