http://www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/engines/eng34a.htm This one was still current in the 70's, and you get a bonus.. Air Cooled, so no awkward radiator. At 3404 lbs, it doesn't outweigh the 123, and with 3500 hp, should improve acceleration. Don't look too much for top end, though, on this 72 L jobbie. |

Uh-oh, CC... we may have insulted the purists. How about his Benz-baby... L6, liquid cooled, and a modest improvement to 200 hp. Sorry about the size and weight, though, but the pipes make up for that.

Aircraft engines in cars....???
Put an aircraft engine in a car you'll end up with something like this,From Australia's Rod Hadfeild,( a real nice guy ,I raced with him some years back,he had a Studebaker with a .
V8 he built himself ,the entire engine including casting block and heads) http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/richardscorner/05hadfield/ |

Of course if you want a diesel there is always one of these
Just make sure you design the exhaust to handle the after burning turbocharger.

Here are some details on the Napier Nomad Mark 1 http://www.apss.org.uk/projects/smaller/nomad/ more details on its afterburning turbo (actually a turbo compound turbocharger) http://www.apss.org.uk/projects/smaller/nomad/detail/index.htm And finally the Napier Nomad Mark 2 as pictured above http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napier_Nomad Its the ultimate engine IMHO

CC... I'm beginning to suspect your sincerity. I can accept the modest weights and sizes of these engines, but how are you going to handle the contra-rotating output shafts, or the opposing thrust? I just can't see a way. We need more realism here, and suggest that we declare my little Benz engine to be the one. Really, now.
I can see the Napiers as a a useful replacement for the W112, what with the same number of cylinders n' all. |
