Per JCE: "This weekend I saw a black CLK cabrio with 5 spoke chrome alloys. The back was badged "CLK430AMG" !!!??? I didn't know this existed, or does AMG in this case mean he Applied Metal Glue to his badges?"

-----------------

I was travelling in the left lane of a four lane street here in Charlotte (usual moderately heavy morning traffic) in my C43 when I passed a bright new red CLK430 with an AMG badge on the right side of the trunk -- maybe CLK drivers seem to think that if they have the AMG wheels and the ground effects they should display the AMG badge as well.

After I passed him and he saw my car, including the dual oval exhaust pipes, he slowed down to fade away in the rear rather than keep up with me -- seemed to be avoiding me as well, like run.exe's poseur.

Will be at the dealer tomorrow for routine service and will ask whether they give out the AMG badges to anyone who wants one (or sell them in the parts shop).

C43,

Why do you care? You have a C43 and it is a AMG. I do not know about you but I have more on my plate than worrying about some guy and a 430 with AMG badges.

BTW, he could keep up with you if it really was a 430. I have spent the $ like you on a AMG car, yet if someone wants to slap an AMG on their car...who cares.

Drive On my fellow AMG'r.

I saw this one today and just had to get a pic. If you can't tell, it's says C43 on the left side, and AMG on the right side. I think it's stupid to lie, just leave it the way it is or take it off all together, IMO.

I gave him the thumbs down sign as I drove by, I hope he didn't see me take the picture!

When we converted our W124 300TE with an engine and drivetrain from a 1995 C36 AMG, 500E brakes & rear swaybar, and SportLine suspension (front shocks, front swaybar, control-arm bushings, and front & rear springs), I considered replacing the badge with 360TE AMG.

However, I did like the cleaner lines of the rear hatch with only the "star", and with 17-inch 8-hole wheels, only the discreet SportLine badges & Brabus spoilers & exhaust give a clue to what's underneath.

David,

Was that a stock C class with the C43 markings, the markings were correct but the car looked stock ??

I mean throwing on a AMG on a CLK430 is one thing but a regular "C" is another. However other than just laughing to yourself who cares...right. It's not like he can trade it in for 35K or destroy you at the light. Anyone who knows the AMG line would be able to spot it right off.

My dealer says the hottest markings they sell are the V12 ones, in fact they have been spotted on C class and 190's.
That would be funny to see, unless of course they ran 11 second quarters.

BTW the member with the tricked wagon...unsual but very cool.

Per TrojanAMG: "BTW, he could keep up with you if it really was a 430."

-----------------------

As traffic was only going about 40MPH, it wasn't an issue of ability to keep up (BTW, there's probably at least a full second differential in 0-60MPH), but rather a seeming deliberate dropping back, which was my point.

Trojan is, of course, right that there are many more impportant things than how someone else chooses to dress up their own car or how they (or others who see the badge) feel about it.

You may take some amusement from a "New Kill" posting on the Honda S2000 Board, where a hot rodder thought he had blown away an AMG car when he merely passed a S500 with AMG wheels:

"today on hixson pike i was drivin with the top down, and i see a gold merc, i scan to see what type it was and i saw it was an s500, well now i see that he has taken off and i said WOW its an AMG, the car was quite fast, so i floor it, i am slowly gaining and then i said DOH down shifted to 3rd and caught up to him, i was about 1/4 car lenght ahead and still pulling at aroun 100 mph when we quit, i saw one up close in a parking lot and thought it would be fun to race one, they are pretty fast but the guy i was against had an automatic, im not sure how much better manual transmission is, he was kinda mad that a honda beat him and was dissin honda, so i just said, hey what you call a POS honda just beat you and your 100k(???) AMG Merc pops!! needless to say he was mad, =)"

Be careful out there: AC Schnitzer has fitted the 5.8 litre BMW V12 from the 850csi to the BMW 3-er Compact. You never know just what is under the bonnet of those 190Es with V12 badging...

Trojan,
Yes, it was a stock C-class with C43 on the left and AMG on the right, just like it WOULD be...
I gave him thumbs down sign!

I have seen a Suzuki Samarai around town with Benz hubcaps, Stars all over it it even has in large letters BENZ on the lower door panel. I am on the ready to get a picture when the opportunity arrives. Oh did I mention the blue fabric top? I am sure if I get the photo of this thing it will be all over the net. This guy has put alot of work in that ugly thing.

I have a weird, and sadly enough, true story.

When I first started working on MB's, my parents said they wanted a Benz of there own. Well I couldn't afford to buy them a benz, so I "upgraded" the family 12hp Craftsman lawn tractor. Included in the "upgrade" was hood star, hood badge, trunk star, and custom 120SL emblems.

Regretfully, I have no pictures of this truly one of a kind MB lawn tractor

The guys at the lawn mower shop laffed hysterically when they laid eyes on it for the first time, as you can imagine!
