Thinking crazy...

Anyone out there try putting a V8 into a 114? I just bought a 73' 280c and would love to have that baby flying. Don't get me wrong, the straight 6 is fine, and maybe it would be better to modify the 6cyl, but I'd like to know what anyone out there thinks... Or more importantly, would it fit?

CLK's

Would that be the equivalent of putting the V8 in the CLK's The 320's are sixes and the 430's, 500's, and 55's are V8's. It's a lot of power and torque in a much lighter vehicle. Should really set the road on fire if you can make it fit.

How about heat build up, etc? Good luck! Let us know what happens.

i looked at that once with a tape measure. i think you will interfere at the exhaust headers with the inner fenders. when they started using v8s they pushed out the front wheels.

i think with tube headers though it would work. the steering box will be tight too. make sure it is adjusted before installing the v8.

The R107 used the same subframe, so the motor should bolt in. However, issues with battery placement, exhaust, a/c hoses, cooling system capacity should be thought about. Along with brakes, and frant sping rate to deal with the heavy v-8. Also, you will need to plumb in a fuel return lin for the fuel injection. IMHO, it would be cheaper and easier to buy a 280SE 4.5.

the 107 did use the same subframe but in the 107 the engine sits a lot further back in relationship to it, so issues of fit are very different for a 114 chassis.

imho

I've seen one locally! It was a small block Ford V8 the owner probably had many hundreds of hours invested (love of labor!)
It was FS but I passed. Come to think of it, I also saw one on eBay w/ a V8 in it. I would relocate the battery to the trunk if I did that kind of thing. And beef up the springs. And the brakes, I saw an Aussie 114 that had big brakes out of a 420 (W126) chassis as I recall. now THAT took some work!

actually the vented rotors from the 126 bolt on along with the wider calipers. and the mb aluminum v8 is lighter than a 617 diesel. a ford small block is undoubtably lighter as well.

Yeah right... a Ford

I grew up in a Chevy family, so a Ford V8 would be out of the question. (No offense to the Ford people out there)

Given what everyone is saying, I'd end up spending too much time trying to get this to work. So...

Performance mods for the straight 6. Any thoughts out there?

Thanks,
Greg
