Do the SECs have stiffer swaybars that would fit a W126 sedan?
I like my 91 300SE's comfy ride, but I can't see the ground out the left window when I take a 'fun' left sweeper. An improvement wouldn't be worth more than a couple hundred $$ so I'm not considering going the after market route. Thanks, Sixto 91 300SE |

The front bar on a W126 car is the hardest bar to replace on any MB except the old 6.9. NO benefit in the COUPE bar! The 1988 & later W126 cars used softer springs, shocks, & sway bars. Want a firmer ride go with HD Bilstiens OR Koni's

Thanks MBDoc. I'm looking for less roll without a firmer ride. If it's as difficult as you say it is, then I won't bother.

The rear bar is easy!! The front bar is under the brake booster & battery as it is mounted to firewall. HD shocks won't ruin ride, as I said the 1988 & later cars have "soft" suspension.

Can you confirm that an SEC or other model rear bar is stiffer and will fit?
Can you also confirm what models have stiffer springs that will drop in? Thanks, Sixto 91 300SE |

A quality aftermarket spring such as H&R or Eibach will add control to your cornering without damaging the quality of your ride. If your suspension is not only stock, but original, then you're looking at a lot of well-worn parts. Many of the bushings, etc, are small but their influence (when you add them up) is huge in terms of quality of handling. The first order of business is making sure your stock supsension is fresh. Bilstein comfort shocks have a lifetime warranty and work well with H&R or Eibach as well as stock springs. Check and make sure that your subframe bushings and suspension link bushings get replaced if they are worn. This will be far better for your car than messing with swaybars...easier and cheaper too.

W126 Sway Bars
I've been following your thread on the sway bars. Please feel free to visit our site at http://www.mbcoupes.com
In a nutshell, we're in the process of having custom-made professionally tested and developed sway bar sets for the W126 cars specifically. Many of the SEC drivers are enthusiasts with AMG, H&R, and Eibach spring sets in their cars (including mine). We will be able to help your 300SE in terms of performance handling. Hope to see you there! Regards, Satish Tummala |
