I give up on this thread. I tried to tell you specifically what plug to use, to no avail. No you can't get the tool at NAPA.

Yes by all means get platinum plugs, a k & n filter, an Indian Auto Zone oil filter, and powder coated black 9 inch wide rims with 255 x 35 vr 18's.

Never mind that the tires will rub, it will ride like hell, the engine won't run smoothly, and the cheap oil filter will trash the engine.

Bye,

Steve

Red face

Sorry, your the expert not me, My bad. Im fine with the Bosch spark plugs but the wheels are just the style we are looking for now if we cant get any that will work for this car than we will need to look for something else wont we? now that tool I do not want to just use a pair of plier's to pull the boot off I dont want to scratch them. and I am asking all these questions that seem stupid just becuase I dont know, Remember this is the first mercedes in the family. pretty much everything about this car is weard to me so I gotta start learning it or start learning how to read german or both
#1 Is there AMG style wheels that will fit this car?
#2 Where can I get that TOOL what STORE can I go too. (I dont like ordering from the net)
#3 where is the closest mercedes benz dealership. know what never mind that I will look it up and post the results.
#4 Thank you for your time

There's a few ppl that have supercharged them with a used one of the GM cars. Not sure if it was a 260 or 300.

Your limit in HP/Torque by the 1.1 liter Diff.

Handling can be improved with the factory sport line swaybars. While I love my 300E, I have thought of a 400E with the 3.55 rear end!

As far as plugs and the other items , anyone on this forum is more than willing to help. It is frustrating to some ( Steve as well as possibly others ) when they have given you the answer but you did not seem to read it. That said I know you are drawn to the platinum plugs due o the excellent marketing done by Bosch on those items. Here are some of your answers.

1. Use the plugs recommended by Steve and or look at the thread in this forum ( it is a long one ) on platinum plugs. I have had great success with them in my Porsche and my Durango. Others have had issues with them in the Benz's. Please read the thread it is very good information.

2. Wheels are always a personal choice. Search and read the other threads at this site. Then call Luke at tire rack, excellent service, excellent price the correct tech information.

3. Spark plug wire pliers. Any auto store and sometimes if you have a Sears with a large Craftsman toll center. You can also use pliers with rubber boots on them or ( shhhh don't tell anyone - wrap the ends with duct tape but use engine is not hot ).

4. Search this site for suspension info.

5. I know when you have a question you just want to ask but you will get more benefit from this site if you search and read related threads and then
post your new question / thread. I still search and read old threads some from back in 2002 and the information is still relevant.

6. I understand about ordering on the internet but you can research on the web and buy by phone. It has been my experience from dealings with companies referenced to or advertising on this site are honest and helpful
( Disclaimer !!!!!!!! ).
You will find your E-class a great car that with a little work now will give you some great service and enjoyable driving. Okay now who wanst the soapbox !

Thank you, I will do that, I went to discount tires in clackamas and they wanted 550 each for 17 inch AMG lookalikes, I looked up what the 300 E looks like with real AMG wheels in 18's and it looks like we would have problems with the pot holes around here in that size. My new questions are
#1 how tall of a wheel can I get?
#2 how wide of a wheel can I fit front and back,WITH OUT RUBBING
tire rack would be my best bet so I should ask them these questions lol
Thank you

Thumbs up

Right , I just got out from under my car's and looked at the tires on my "burban" and I will be giving Luke a call as well. Do not let any of this thread discourage you from enjoying your car and looking for advice. Good Luck.

Arrow Wide Tires make a difference on the 300E....you bet!

No matter what anyone says or thinks, wide tires make a tremendous difference on the 300E, and if you run premium gasoline (and have a new fuel filter) you should be leaving most cars at the stop light if you are trying to do that.

As far as spark plugs are concerned, the platinum plugs (Bosch dual-tip) caused the blown head gasket on my Benz (happened before I purchased the car and I knew it, and knew I could repair it ) so if you want to experiment with plugs, go ahead, but be ready to locate someone to replace your head gasket, and do a valve job while the head is off, (I spent $552.00 at the machine shop, which included a head gasket) then run stock plugs. I personally run Autolite (single-tip, I forget the number at the moment) but you can get these from most any auto parts store. They are an excellent spark plug and I have been very happy with performance and durability of Autolite plugs. As a matter of fact, I read that Mercedes-Benz no longer recommends any platinum plug for the W124 cars.

If you rotate the plug wires first before you try pulling on them, you will have a much better chance of removal without damage. I use a magnet on a pocket antenna to retrieve my plugs. I always start the plug threading into the threads by hand, instead of trying to force them to start with a socket and ratchet.

If you visit www.************************ you will be able to see all that they have available for your Benz, and you may be surprised....search the online catalog (where you can see all the 190 parts also, but the catalog has excluded 190E parts) and while you are there, request a catalog , you may find it helpful.

You can rework the air intake and get better performance, without a doubt. If you want to super charge it, do a search and see what others have had success with. The Ford Thunderbird came from the factory with turbo (4 cylinder turbo) and may be an excellent candidate for parts for the project. If you replace the fuel filter it may help performance also.

By the way, are you aware that the 300E takes off in 2nd gear? Just wondering, maybe this will shed some light on your performance concerns...hope this helps, and let me know if I can help you further.

Lightbulb First Gear

Simply pull the gear selector down into 2 and then back into Drive, or push the gas pedal all the way to the floor, depressing the kick-down switch behind the gas pedal....you will start out in first gear, and will really feel the power from your 300E.

If you want more power, sell the 300E and get a 400E...
No need to keep spending money for more horsepower when you can buy a 400E with a very powerful V-8.

Just stay away from platinum spark plugs, and drain your fuel tank (located in the trunk, drain plug underneath) and flush it out, cleaning the rust deposits collected over the years....and make sure your fuel guage is working.

On the spark plug note, I have those Beru 4 prong coppers. Dont know the name off the top of my head, I think ordered them from neuspeed. They work at least as good as the stock ones. No problems in like 10'000 miles.

And if you want to see a lowered CE 124 with 19s or 18s, go to carshine.com.au, they say they can do it without rub or problems. Its in Australia, so i can't say I have experienced it first hand, but they welcome test drivers.

The cover neede to be made out of plastec for various reasons. It is durable , does not rust or corrode, is light weight and flexible. Plus I am betting that the plastic is quieter than a metal one would be.
