I just spotted this post while looking for something else. I seldom post here but it looked like you were interested in some real mods to your 124 and not seeing much help.

The 300E gives you a couple of ways to go depending on how many dollars you want to spend. You can go out of the box up to 300+ HP with a Mosselman Twin Turbo system. While they are about $7K retail, they show up on ebay all the time for under $3K and are a piece of cake to install. Once I installed the Mosselman, I found it really easy to duplicate the effort without going the Mosselman route with used turbos and one of several engine management systems for well less than the $3K for a used MTTS.

Without going the Turbo route, a more freeflowing CatBack system and K&N intake will give you better WHP [about 12 if everything else is tuned up]. I would also recommend an aftermarket ceramic catalytic converter from someone like Magnaflow. The sound of the car will not change much but the HP will go up. Also, the car will remain CARB compliant if you are in an inspection state. Purists tend to stick with Benz only technology but there has been a ton of research since the W124 was designed over 20 years ago and Intake/exhaust has been one area where the W124 can benefit from that research.

As for wheels, there are plenty of 17’s available that are AMG knockoffs from places like TireRack and dealers in ebay. As long as it has the 35 ET you are fine. Tirerack will also help you with tire size [It should have 215/45-17] . Watch the weight of the rims. Some aftermarket rims are very heavy [including some real AMG rims and the 177 HP 300E does not like that as well as a lighter rim.

Hope this helps a bit. Have fun modding up your ride. Just remember it is a Mercedes and not a Honda.

Dude, what do you do to your cars between 100-120K? I know Thunder Valley is just down the road from you but that can't be the answer.
