HELP...I didn't get a rollbar waiver for the Silver State Classic Challenge and must look for something to bolt into the E500.

Any racers out there know of a 4-point bolt-in kit, preferably 2" drawn-over-mandrel pipe?

John: Thanks for those links...I've sent off a few e-mails to see about custom fabrication of a removable roll bar for the E500. Not a lot of prefab Mercedes kits out there!

BTW, "bimmerboy" is Sheldon Enns from Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was a fellow Canadian at last years Silver State Classic. Small world, eh?

I saw his reference to you and your spouse, and all the pics of the international cometitors on his site! What fun! I have always had a weakness for Aston Martin, and did I read correctly that 2 MB Diesels were in the Silver Stat?!??!!!

I recall one diesel and one E420, besides my car. That was it for Mercedes-Benz representation.

Mounting a roll-bar in an E500 Will it be a put-in/pull-out roll-bar or would it be an irreversible modification?

It reminds me of the german Opel drivers with the Manta's and Ascona's. Those german drivers seem to fear their own driving style and drive around with roll-bars in their cars!

I have seen some VW Golf TDI's in 24-hour races before and some of these races were even won by the VW diesels!!!

MBenz...I share the same sublime sense of my own invincibility as others - that's why they have tech committees at races to save us from ourselves.

Actually, in spite of the decision that will cost me money and time, I wrote the committee a longish note thanking them for putting safety first - dead drivers make for bad press!

BTW, I think those German drivers fear the tourists in their Skodas and 2CV's more than each other.

NO, these Germans know what they can do (and what their car cannot)...It is to protect themselves from their own misbehavior and the cars incompetence to correct that!

I know that one has to take some really good precautions before one should start racing on closed circuits...it is better to be save than sorry.

The fabulous company I work for can't keep any of their promises and therefore they found it necessary to postpone my US-project again. Maybe I may leave for the states somewhere in the second half of the year, but my hope is decreasing by the day.
Whenever I will be in the states, I will keep this in mind...racing on open roads without any other traffic...that sounds like a lot of fun!
