Realistic price on a 1992 500E ?

I'm building a war chest in prep for buying a new house and a few extra cars need to go. What I'm trying to do is assess which car (of 2 I'm considering) should be sold. Thing is I'm having a heck of a time finding a realistic value for my car.

1992 500E
140,000 mi.
Solid mechanical (just had trans re-worked by Automiester II here in WA)
Paint has some defects, but none are structural (person before me wore lots of finger jewlery and the door handles wells are pretty scratched). Body is straight.

NASA and Kelly are all over the chart from $9,000 to $13,500 what might I expect this car to sell for if I decide it's the one to go?

Thanks list gurus!!!!

Hi David,
I purchased my 92 500E two years ago with about the same mileage. I would say between $10,500 and $13,000 would be the a good range. Post some pics of the exterior, interior and engine and I'll give you a better appraisal.

Now we're talkin!

I'll try to link the pics from the CL ad for it. I don't have many of the interior (I guess I should have taken some.. stupid huh). Black on black. I still may keep it.. but.. the bank is offering a killer deal on a loan, terms never offered in the market before but the pilot program is short and local and if want to execute on it.. I need to make some sacrifices now for the benefits later.

Very nice,,, and original too! I wouldn't accept less then $12,500 as long as there's no rust and the interior is mint. Mine is flawless. Ask for $14K though... It's worth every penny.

Thanks. It's not flawless but pretty close. From interior seats have some stretching at the side seams but neither has rips or tears. Carpets are all very clean, it's in pretty dang nice shape. Just for kicks I had a friend call around to local dealerships for bid-buy offers. Whoa.. talk about offensive. $4500 was the top bid! Yeah.... riiiiiiiiiight. Even the KBB wholesale said $9000+.

I was just contacted by a guy that does an auto auction, going to be held on the 14th. I don't know if this is a scam type I've never seen before (already a couple of 'Canadians' have offered some shady money exchange check return scams) or a legitimate opportunity to set a reserve price and see what it brings in. I posted the sell price at $12,900 on CL. I thought that was pretty resonable. I mean.. geez.. it was a nearly $80,000 car new! And the only thing *wrong* with it are a bunch of numbers on the odometer.

Oh, when I bought it (some of those first smaller pics) it had some hideous 7" wide chrome wheels on it (with non-hub-centric spacers to clear the brakes). Finding a set of original 8" wide 16" wheels was not easy but worth the effort I think. Sold the cheezy chromes for nearly what I paid for the originals.

10-15k would be the range, as long as the condition is good, no reason to give it away. Ebay it, I have seen similar cars sell in this range, the lower end of the range normally has pretty beat up vehicles in it.

I agree, somewhere in the $10-15k range, on the higher end if it's really clean and rust-free, and doesn't have any major flaws. Sign up over at 500E.com and post it in the classifieds there.

BTW, nice bike! I've got an RSV-R, and used to race a GSX-R in the AFM back in the day.

I'll third it....start high like 15K ; that mileage is really un-important if maintained (its not so high for a 14 year old car) and there are buyers looking for this (future classic) model.

If you were in southern New England it would be sold this week I'll bet ! Good luck.
