Sportline suspension seconhand

I was looking at putting the suspension system into my 1990 300CE 24v. My local scrapyard happens to have a 1990 300E 24v sportline in. I have yet to see the condition but it would be a cheap upgrade to this system.
He wants £200 for whole system. New is £800 and I dont have a spring compressor so shop fittment required.
Is it worth it ? Or take the mounting kit if good and sway bars if not too corroded but leave springs and shock and buy new ?
any thoughts ?

If it's in good condition it sounds like a very reasonable price.

Snag the steering box, steering wheel, airbag, shift knob, and seats... those are the rare/expensive items. Everything else would be a bonus if in good shape.

The cost new from the dealer for every Sportline item would be insane... thousands and thousands of dollars. For example, the Sportline steering box alone is about $2000 USD brand new. I think the steering wheel and airbag would be in the general neighborhood of $2k as well (but I haven't checked lately). You don't even want to know what it would cost to buy new Sportline seats.

The suspension items are more affordable new: roughly $350 for the springs, another $350 for the sway bars, about $700 for shocks & struts, and ~$300 for the control arm & subframe bushings. The original Sportline wheels were 15x7.0, and pretty rare... but I don't know anyone who would actually want to keep small wheels like that. I run 16's o 17's on both of my Sportline-converted cars.

BTW, that reminds me... I have an original Sportline steering wheel floating around my shop that I keep forgetting to post for sale. If anyone is interested in buying it, please drop me an email. It will get listed in the classifieds eventually...

i second GSXR on the steering box, gear knob and anything else, ill take the seats and door panels tooo, especially if it has the split rear seat bench.
DO take the springs, but leave the shocks, what else, do take the front lower control arms and it would be gr8 if u could take all the bushings too, but those prolly will be ruined just tryin to take them off.

One catch on the steering box... only the sedan Sportline boxes are rare. All 124 coupes & cabrios (300CE) had slower steering ratios than the sedans... so the coupe (or cabrio) Sportline box was just the normal, non-Sportline box from the sedan! And those are a dime a dozen (free sounds about right). The sedan Sportline boxes can be difficult to locate, and you would need to check the VIN of the donor car to make 100% sure it's really a Sportline sedan. Or check the box itself, if the part number stamped on the side is still legible.

It was a sedan. Damnit.

I did however grab the seats, as well as the wheel. I did make out somewhat good I guess. Damn, if I would have known.

The Sportline steering wheel is sold, but I may have a similar wheel available soon... only difference is the gray section at the bottom (see photo below).

The front sedan Sportline seats will not fit the coupe correctly. Not sure about the rears.
