Hi everybody,

I've just bought a low mileage 47,000 one owner car. It runs and looks great except that the engine temperature is TOO LOW at about 50 degrees.

I didn't have time to investigate whether the gauge is at fault or the thermostatic valve.

The pictures:

mwollny,

Beautiful car! I could look at this model all day, I love the 500E stance.

Congratulations, wish I could welcome you to the "owners" club, but I don't own one...yet!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to you, Martin - very nice!
I am sure you will never tire of your new acquisition.

I have a question, please: are the yellow marker-lights on your front quarter-panels stock (OEM) or after-market add-ons?

I apologize that my website is still down. It should be back NLT the middle of next month. Please check back, every so often, to check its status.

With thanks and kind regards,

SWEET!!! I notice that antenna you have on the car, which looks alot like some of those fixed antenna MB used on European models equipped with Phone/GPS.... What is it for exactly??

The aerial is for the telephone. I took it out because couldn't think of a way to slot my sim card in.

A question regarding the alarm:

There are two buttons, left one has a red dot above it. Also, there is a slider switch on the side of it. Can anyone explain what are the buttons for.

Also, is immobiliser installed with alarm?

Just for the record - my idle speed is only about 500 rpm and feels just right. I saw somewhere in the forum that other people indicated around 800?

Forgot to answer one of the questions:

The indicator on the quarter panel is a standard feature on this particular variant.

Martin:

Would you be so kind, please, as to post a close-up image of your front quater-panel indicator (marker) light?

Thank you, in advance,

run.exe,

These side markers are available in black and white as well ( http://www.in-pro.com )...Maybe you rather want to add white side markers on your silver 500!

martin,

Are you considering changing the rear bumper to complete the 500E/E500 update? I wonder why people spend the money and time to change the hood, headlight lenses (lower headlight filler panels), trunk lid, taillights and forget about the rear bumper...
With or without an updated rear bumper; the car just looks GREAT. The color is just right for a 500!
Did you leave the unused GSM antenna on or do you plan to take it off and get stuck with a hole in the rear quarter?

greetingz,

To Run.Exe

I'll be taking some close-up photos on the weekend and will let you know when the indicators are ready for viewing!

To MBenz

I am not aware that any modification was done on this vehicle. It was bought as E500 and in the comprehensive service history (from new) and manuals there is nothing to say the car's been changed in any way. I've had similar enquiries though.

I wonder what to do with the aerial?

I have a book that explains the breakdown of the VIN. If you like, post your VIN here & exclude the last 4 numbers. I'll explain as best I can.

What is the build date of your car (listed inside the driver's door sill)?

Congrats on your purchase! I'd like to see it from rear three/quarter view, which I believe to be the best angle.

BTW, I understand that the turn signal on the front fender is referred to as a "repeater".

Hope you get to run your car like it's supposed to be-on a track! You can never begin to comprehend the capabilities of this luxurious car until you really thrash it...I've just really done it for the first time, and I assure you it won't be the last!

Michael, the car is european (UK) and has no VIN#.

Martin, either the rear bumper is swapped or all other parts are swapped (1993 was the year of the model update in europe). You can always check what parts should go with your chassis# at the nearby MB dealer (I don't know about you, but I am always curious about these kind of (little) things).

greetingz,
