1988 300CE M103 Cat-back question

What's a good cat-back exhaust system for the W124 300CE with M103 SOHC motor in California? Can I go with one from a muffler shop like a Flowmaster or something? What is available and where is a good place online to buy one? It seems there is not much performance wise for this old coupe. Is there an AMG or other available? is it Ok to go with a cheap one? Do the lower end makers carry a full bolt up cat back kit? Any pointers in the right direction would help.

Regards,
Jason

i have removed the rear muff or resonator on two of my cars and just had a custom bent pipe put on in its place of the larger diameter. it cost less than 50 i think and made the cars rumble a little and i imagined that it may have increased fuel economy and performance a little. i recommend they not cut your stock pipes but make the new pipe strictly a bolt on swap so you can put it back stock with a minimum of effort.

i have for a long time felt that benzes and most cars sell better when bone stock. aftermarket wheels may be an exception if they arent too wild.

NO SPINNERS.

heh heh

Tom,

Thank you for the larger diameter pipe bolt-on application. I think that will be the way to go for right now. As long as the 1st resonator is not contaminated. Anyway if it is I'll just change that for a stock unit or something and still use the custom bent rear 3" pipe. Maybe cut the end and add a tip or something. I get it now. Gotta go to the muffler guys since I don't have metal worker friends out here in Los Angeles. I do have a master muffler guy my cousin used for his Corvette. He's got a new true dual system on there with an X pipe. Sweet set-up. I saw it when it was just finished and still on the lift. Maybe he can whip up something for me.
Then I just have to see that the cat is OK and working. And that the resonator isn't full of crap.

Thank you for the help and Merry Christmas.

Regards,
Jason

Looks good. Thanks. I'll be at Mammoth Mountain all week and hopefully I can come back and have a set-up like that installed immediately.

I was looking around at cats and saw the magnaflow universal cat. Seems they're cheap compared to the Miller replacement OEM type.

Then it's on to the little things like Bilsteins and new bushings and better wheels and performance tires. The trans is starting to delay from 2nd to 3rd and will need a rebuild soon if I dont stop driving like a teenager. Then the head needs a rebuild and the engine needs some new hoses. The motor could do with a total rebuild too. I was hoping to score a used trans and motor and rebuild them myself. The body needs a little work and a repaint would really help. Maybe I'll sell the CE soon and get a late 90's sport C320 sedan or an E430 sport. Seems like they would be better cars to invest in. I do like the CE but the California emissions test doesn't.

Regards,
Jason
