(I must apologize in advance if these questions have already been answered as I just joined the forum today.)

A year ago there was an article in Road & Track (Feb. 2000) that mentioned that MBZ tuner Lorinser had taken an AMG 5.5 liter engine, put it in an E wagon, added a supercharger and got 0-60 times of 4.5s (415 bhp, 457 lb ft). This being the case, I wondered what the same supercharger (or another) would do to a normal E55? I have a 1999 model and I inquired at CEC in West LA and they said it would cost around $20,000 to install one (and take a month). Is there another supercharger I could add that would cost a little less or is this a standard price. Also, does AMG offer a supercharger? (I know they have the Kompressor for the little 4 bangers.)

My second question is that the tech at CEC mentioned that they could also modify the suspension on my E55 to the original European specs as it was changed to bring it over to the states. Thus, implying that the suspension could be better and should be. Is this correct, or a line of bull?

My final question: Is it possible to remove the speed limiter (155mph) chip and who can do it?

Kind Regards,

GingerbreadMan

What do you mean by normal E55 ? All E55's are the same. As for the supercharger, if you are going to get one, get it done by Lorinser. AMG does not offer a supercharger for the E55 (and AMG isn't the one who offers superchargers on the 4 bangers either). AMG can remove the speed limiter, but they're in Germany. If you want to remove the speed limiter try Brabus or RennTech.

Supercharger

Wasn't the supercharger they refered to a centifugal blower (I think it was a Vortech)? Knowing how tight that engine compartment is, I can't imagine where they would put a Roots type or Screw type charger.

With the high compression of the E55 motor, I wouldn't supercharge it or buy a supercharged version that hadn't been pulled and fitted for lower compression pistons. You run into all sorts of trouble running the right fuel enrichment.
