Hi all! New to the board but have been lurking for some time now. Must say that this is probably the best source of information for MBs of all shapes and sizes save for having an MB Tech on call 24/7!
I am contemplating an upgrade of a 93 500E and have already reserved the 94/95 hood and grill, clear corners, and red/clear tail lights from my dealer. In respect of the Euro spec headlights, are there differences between standard 94/95 W124 headlamps and 94/95 E500 headlamps? I noticed that the North American versions of the older (pre 94/95) 500Es had driving lamps instead of fog lamps. Does the same hold true for the Euro versions of the 94/95s as well? Also, what is the highest rated (wattage) bulbs that the 94/95 Euro headlamps would accept without undue damage/melting etc.? Suggestions most welcome! Thanks for all replies.

European (1-piece) headlamps
Rainmaker:
I use Sylvania Super Blue H4 halogen bulbs in my European (1-piece) headlamps; however, I would not mind indentifying and trying a bit brighter bulb... Kind regards, |

Higher Wattage Headlights
Hi,
When I upgraded my 90 300CE to the Euro lights, I was told by the senior mechanic at the local dealership that I could go to 80/100 H4 beams with no trouble. I did that, using Hella bulbs, and they have been in there for 3 years without even a blow fuse. I have checked the wires a number of times for any sign of heating --- nothing. I also am running 100W H3 white lights in the fog side of the lamps. No problems with those either, though I don't use them much (fog is rare here, though you wouldn't think so with all the amber or white foglights wired to headlights around here 8:[ ). The only thing I'd still like to do would be to connect the headlight Euro leveling system - I had a hell of a time figuring out what this stoopid nipple was on the headlamp! The European E500 has foglights in the bumper, city lights, dimmed lights and high beams in the outer section of the head light unit and auxiliary high beam lights besides the grill in the head light units.
greetingz,

MBenz,
Would you be able to easily hunt down the part number and a source for these? I figured the best way to get the Euro spec lamp part number is from Europe, right?
My dealer normally gets me parts real cheap if in inventory but unfortunanately, these aren't and would cost me $500 per side! Many thanks....
