As of this writing, I have posted 7 images on my website, detailing the installation of a RENNTech transmission oil cooler (500E/E500). Said images are named: RENNTech transmission oil cooler installation 1.JPG . . . Scott. Beautiful setup.
How much should I budget for this? Any "gotchas" during the install? Have you noticed any difference in shifting? Does it increase your capacity at all? I'm thinking I need one of these for my C36 W124 wagon setup because even on Willow Springs trackway, I kept the tranny in "3" all day (8am-5pm with a 1-hour break), and at redline (6500 RPM). We just changed out the Mobil 1, and the fluid looked brand new! Refilled with SWEPCO's synthetic ATF 20WT per the what the Porsche 928 club recommends (they use the Mercedes 722 tranny). Shifts even better. Also, what's RennTech cooling component about? Cost? Take care, :-) neil |

reply to Neil
Thank you very much for your compliment, Neil.
To answer your questions: RENNTech Oil cooler kit = $1,250.00 RENNTech transmission cooler = $745.00 I would assume an engine oil capacity/quantity increase of no more than 1/4 a quart; however, my engine oil level did not appear to have changed much, after the installation was complete (dipstick level = half-way mark). I agree with you: all W124 owners should consider, at a minimum, the add-on engine oil cleaner/intercooler. It makes good sense, from any perspective. The installation of *BOTH* the engine oil cooler and transmission cooler took approximately 4 hours, total. Please let me know the results of your own efforts.. Kind regards, |

Scott- do the pictures "RennTech cooling component" and "RennTech in-line cooling unit" function as the engine oil cooler? If so, where does the engine oil radiator mount?
Can you provide a picture? The cooling component also looks like it could be a water-to-oil cooler. . . Also, how about dimensions (LxWxD)for the engine oil radiator, and scans of the installation manual as well? Can you provide dimensions for the tranny cooler as well? I'm looking into doing an aftermarket setup ( http://www.fluidyne.com/highperform.html look under products) Thanks in advance, :-) neil |

Neil:
Unfortunately, since I have installed all my RENNTech cooling components, already, I have no dimensions at-the-ready. I recommend you contact Bob Brady at RENNTech for any/all desired data (info@renntechmercedes.com). The engine oil radiator mounts behind the front bumper assembly; the installation is simple, as there are existing holes for its mounting (again, this is an OEM component in Europe). Kind regards, |

Scott- is the engine oil cooler ONLY for the M119 engine (400E and 500E)?
I don't think it can be adapted to the M104 (DOHC 6-cylinder). Thanks, Neil |

Neil
I believe the engine oil intercooler part is, indeed, for the 119 motor; however, I do not think it would be all that complicated (correct me if I'm wrong) to adapt it.
I must refer you to Bob Brady at RENNTech, since I do not know, for certain. His e-mail address is: WBrady2410@aol.com Kind regards, |

Hey Scott- very clean and very trick and thanks for sharing them with us.
Out of curiousity, are you also considering fresh air intake through the panels below the headlights and/or the other cooling mod from Italian Benz? I don't recall, but have you also upgraded braking to SL600 hardware (or more robust), and are you running stock pads? tks-fad |
