280 tune up
Any ideas of the best way to get more horses out of the good old 280 twin cam motor.

Your only options are supercharger, turbo, or nitrous. No one that I'm aware of makes a kit to either - you'll have to fabricate your own.

I had a 280E, fun car. My brother rebuilt the engine head on it. After that, it was named 'Satan'. Have fun with that engine!
As far as more performance...it's true. You'd probably be better off with a different Benz, a V8. The 280 engine is a weird beast, and you'd likely have to modify a LOT to fit in a turbo/supercharger. The vacuum tubes alone... Good luck either way! (I too always wanted more performance from my trusty 300E - so I sold it and bought an E430 - problem solved).

I have no idea what kind of gearbox the G-wagon is useing, but I think the easyest swap would be m104 3.2 from w140 (230hp)...the tranny side bolt pattern of the merc V and I engines are different....
But ofcourse there is a way to find a v8 gearbox from newer g wagon, they were(are) made with A LOT of different engines.... |

Adding a single turbo to an M110 isn't a big issue, there is a huge hole on the passenger side where you could easily do this.
Now fueling it is going to be the difficult part, an no... an FMU is junk.

i'm getting 3.9 gearing put in soon, followed by custom cams and extractors which should give me a real good time.

If I can ever find my five speed 280SEL (W126 chassis) over here in the US, I'll probably end up with a single turbocharger on it.
