Now that the E500/500E is part of the conversation - here in Dallas since the beginning of the year (when I learned what an E500 was) I have seen exactly one (1) E500 and I have seen many AMG's. I'll chase down any car that I think might be worth looking at.

When I saw the E500 the guy was waiting to pull out to his right as I passed from his right to left. We stared at each other as I drove by and both turned and kept looking at each other as I drove away! It was pretty funny!

Naturally factory AMG, E500/500E, 6.3,6.9, etc. all possess potent three pointed stars...and are not "mass marketed" in any true sense of the word...they are what they are, ...robust Mercedes.

Here in San Francisco, I've commonly observed E55's at 1-2/day during the week apparently used as daily drivers (financial district tycoons?) and maybe 3-4/day cruising on weekends (in the nicest areas of the City and on the freeways). From that same observation point, I've not seen E500/500E's as daily drivers, but often one may be spied stretching its legs on the weekend.

For consideration: maybe a good number E55's AND E500/500E's are stored for weekend excursions only "together" with being somewhat "rare" (rare, being defined as 'hardly ever seen' in the real world hustle and bustle traffic)........Both my E320 Coupe and E500 are weekend use only since other vehicles are utilized for point A to point B transportation.

In either case, as we've heard earlier....both were not limited to "300-400 total production runs" and they may never be Gullwing-type objects....history and a third sense tells us though, that these will be coveted nonetheless for the particular nature of the beast.

I have one...

Hi
I have a 1991 (taken in use late '92) 124 AMG 3,4 - completely stock:
It is a AMG factory-built modified 300E with a 3,4 liter engine (272 HP / 200 KW) and G-Trag 5-speed manual gearbox. AMG wheels, AMG Exhaust, AMG gauges, AMG bodykit bla bla... Top speed is locked at 250 km/h. It was previously owned by MB and used as a showcar of some kind. I have never seen this car anywhere else in Sweden or on the Internet. Except for some for sale at http://www.mobile.de which is a german car trade site I can recommend for viewing pleasure...
I think it's quite rare. I know it was the only one registered in Sweden in 97 when it was imported from Germany.
It's Almandine-red metallic w. black leather interior, and it's got 135000 km's on the odometer.
I use FULDA Extremo 235/45/17 (Z) tires.

I like it a lot!

Talking Count one more E55 on the Board

2001 E55, Silver/Charcoal, 800 miles...can't wait 'til its fully broken in! (...although my mechanic tells me to just floor it since the engine's been broken in at the factory already.)

Where can I get dialed into the track events? I am coming off a 1989 911 turbo that I tracked but PCA used to do all the organising for me...all I had to do was pay and show up!

Ain't no substitute for cubic inches as the saying goes...(except for maybe a good turbo/SC set-up)...

amg

If your counting Renntech cars, count me in. 93 E500, 94 nose, pearl black (mono) , with grey interior, 54M miles, full Renntech 6.0 liter conversion and all the related goodies including 14" brembos, 18" wheels with Dunlop SP 9000's.

It may not have the resale of factory AMG cars- but its faster!

Welcome aboard MOSE55

Welcome to the family. Good luck with your E55!
As for track events, a few of us east coasters go to the track Pocono, LRP, Englishtown, etc.
There is a possibility that a group will be going to the PDA event at LRP on 9/8/01.
Keep us posted if you decide to go.
Gary

pocono 8/11

Lester-
PDA is at Pocono this weekend, running the long course- 2.5 miles on the banking! Should be a great place for the E55. So far it looks like I am the only one going from the list- and would sure like to have some MB company.

Hey Benzo--

Are you actually in possesion of your C32? Just wondering, I've got a production date of next week. I see that a very few cars have already been delivered. Wondered what you thought--I've got to decide--I have an E55 now, have had a 430 cab on order for over a year ( and its going to be here next month too), and the c32 should be here around the same time. Just wondering if you had your car and how it was going....thanks, allen.
